Mission Statement: To provide education and support for orphaned and vulnerable children within the community of Bushika, Uganda
Who:
This fundraiser aims to directly serve the local children of the Bushika Region. The Bushika Junior Education Center specializes in the education and care of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC). Many of the 200+ children that currently attend the school have either lost a parent to an accident, HIV, alcoholism, or come from circumstances where their biological parents can no longer take care of them and need assistance.
What:
The donations generated will be used for several things. Our first and largest tasks is to build a new Bushika Junior Education Center in the same location as the current one. The need for a new building is dire. The current structure was built in 2012 and was meant to be temporary until plans and funds could be generated to build a permanent school. 95% of the money raised will be used to build the new school. This includes materials, windows, doors, roofing, paint/supplies, and for an existing road to be extended for the transport of all materials. The remaining money will be used to buy school supplies and to help feed the children who attend the school.
Where:
The rural community of Bushika, Uganda is located in the Mt. Elgon region, on the Uganda and Kenya border.
Why:
We passionately believe that by providing the children of Bushika the opportunity to attend school and get a good education, their lives will be changed. Giving these children the chance to learn in the appropriate environment and with the correct supplies, will be the start to a great thing in Bushika, Uganda. We have seen firsthand how the current conditions limit the students, and we want to change that so they can have hope for their future and reach their full potential. One thing that moves us so much about this specific school, are the students. The lives that they live outside of class are unimaginable compared to the struggles we face in America. Yet they find comfort in attending school, no matter what the conditions are, still always grateful and hardworking. Not only will a new school create better working conditions for the children, it will also help to bring in better teachers. Our goal is not to change the world itself, but to change the world for each of the students at Bushika Junior Education Center.
