Burpees for the Barrell Family
Rach has been a friend within a group close friends for nearly as long as I have been in this lucky country and more recently decided to join my crossfit gym. The cancer that has befallen their young son, was unxpected and has turned the life of this family upside down. I wanted to do something for the family to help but what? Turns out the everyday bills and life in general, cares not for the health status of a child. I thought that the most useful gift would be monetary. Petrol, medications, bills, treats and experiences all come down to one basic - yet deciding denominator - available finances. Living in regional Australia, many childhood illnesses cannot be treated here necessitating an immediate relocation to a nearby metropolitan centre. This usually include one parent. Imagine the outcome of this... Two income households become one and so on and so forth. We can't fix everything or pay for everything nor should we but with christmas approaching, this young lad is now somewhere near the six month mark of his treatment. That being a journey in itself.
Cancer sucks. Burpees suck. So why not take something awful and make good of it? To this effect I hope to raise $10,000 for as many burpees. My deepest, most sincere hope would be to see this amount raised by the end of the year.
The entire funds raised will be given to the family to use as they wish with no conditions whatsoever.
What raising this money means to me is not a something I have really considered. Nobody has asked me to do this in much the same fashion that this young lad and his family has not asked for this diagnosis and the all the disruption it has brought.
Hope you've all had really good Christmas and new year celebrations for those who could have their families with them but especially so to those who could not. However you view this day, may this year be better than those preceeding it. If you've been meaning to donate but haven't quite gotten around to it, there's still time. I'll be leaving this page open for a time to allow our last donations to come in.
Your actions are the currency of kindness, this fundraising venture had proven just truly rich we are. Moving forward, I hope that if any of you see or know of an area, an issue or a person that is in any sort of need, know that one person CAN make a difference and that person could well be you.
Thank you all for the ceaseless contributions and support. This has been a true testament to the inherent goodness of people.
our donations are now just shy of the $3K mark. Rather than wait please donate. We're at the halfway mark and shy of of the target, please donate as able, even a dollar makes a difference and donations can be made anonymously. I've have schoolmates from overseas donate, let's get behind this decent hardworking family and do what we can. There is a fundraiser starting at Crossfit Victus at 9am this Saturday. Even if we cannot be there for the full fundraiser, please come down and support and throw some change into the collection bucket.
