My mother, Toni Gross, is one of the most selfless people you will ever meet so when she told me how upset she was by the lack of donations coming in for a cause she supports: I knew I had to help.
Wreaths Across America is a once a
year event- December 15 this year during which wreaths are placed on veterans graves. Each wreath costs fifteen dollars.
My brother, Frank R. Gross was buried in Arlington, Virginia where this event happens. Frank was killed July 11, 2016 and a little more than a month later, we buried him there on his birthday.
As you can imagine, this is an event we cherish very much: the holidays are a very hard time of year when you have lost someone. The camaraderie that encompasses this event is so necessary during the loneliest time of year- it is so, so hard friends.
Back to the beginning of my story, my mother had tears in her eyes when she told me she hadn’t raised anywhere near what she had expected- this from a woman who literally gives her entire life to helping others.
From starting her own non profit, Gold Star Awareness, to volunteering once a week at both the USO & the Fisher House to also actively participating with organizations like Gold Star Mothers & Association of the United States Army.
Let’s help this self less woman raise some more money for something she holds so close to her heart- because she is someone I hold so very close to mine.
Beginning November 4th & ending the 11th, on Veterans Day, my best friend, Jessica Holland & I, will be doing 300 burpees a day in order to raise money to give to my mothers foundation, Gold Star Awareness. She will then take that money & give it to Wreaths Across America so that we may honor & remember so many heroes sacrifices.
