Funeral & Memorial Funds for Christopher Rodriguez

$5,712 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 89 people in 1 month
With the heaviest of hearts, I am so sad to be writing this and to say that two days ago, on March 27th, 2019, Christopher Elliot Rodriguez passed away from heart failure in his sleep suddenly, and unexpectedly. He had just celebrated his 40th birthday earlier this month. He was asleep on the couch for a nap when he passed and his youngest son and daughter came home from school and found him. Besides just being the amazing friend, son, and brother that he was, he was also a husband, a father to three, and a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
My name is Amara Rodriguez, and I am the oldest daughter of his. Along with me, my dad was survived by my mom and my two younger siblings who are 12 and 17.  On Wednesday, we were notified that I was declared his next of kin and told that we would be able to continue to receive his VA benefits (to help support the cost of living for his children now), and that along with some other things, that his memorial and burial would be taken care of free of charge. After some further investigation today and after trying to find answers, we have now learned that he had stopped receiving benefits on the first of this month and that the application processes to see if we will receive anything at all now, could take weeks.
Despite my mom and dad having been divorced for this last year, my dad worked tirelessly to become a better man, father, and person to everybody in his life. He was endlessly faithful, loyal, resilient, and he would work multiple jobs year round to support his family financially. My two younger siblings were living at the house that we grew up in with him when he passed, and my mom and I are living on our own. Due to how unexpected his death was, and the news that his VA benefits had stopped at the beginning of this month, we are struggling to afford to take care of the services for his burial and funeral, along with the cost of living and other basic necessities. Although we are reluctant to, we are asking for help from anybody that can donate or just share this post on social media with their friends and family. Anybody and everybody who knew Christopher Rodriguez knew the amazing man that he was, and could probably tell you countless stories they have of him being as incredible as he was. There are no words right now to express the sadness and devastation our family and friends are feeling right now. We greatly appreciate any and all help from anybody who is able to right now. Once we have acquired the funds to prepare him for a proper burial, I will update with a time and place for his funeral so anybody who wishes to come, can.

To all our friends, family, and loved ones,

From the bottom of all of our hearts, thank you so much to everybody who donated to our cause and who shared our story over these last two weeks. We are so grateful to say that Christopher’s services are happening this Thursday in Kent, Washington, at Marlatt Funeral Home at 11 am followed by his burial at the Tahoma National Military Cemetary at 1 pm, ALL due to the contribution of every one of you. Anybody who loved Chris and would like to attend is welcome.

Besides just this, we are in contact with the VA and waiting to hear about applications that we’ve put in to receive benefits for my two younger siblings and we are not giving up on that spectrum. I’m confident in saying that we will receive the appropriate benefits to support them in the future and that we’ll be able to move forward. The support and love that has been shown to my family and I by everybody who knew my father has shown me that blood is not what makes you family - loyalty does. Most of us, myself included, could probably agree that Christopher was the most loyal man any of us knew, and that same loyalty has not been unmatched in his absense. To my dad’s Marine Corps brothers, thank you for your unwavering support and treating me like your own during this difficult time. The love and loyalty that each one of you has shown to my family would make my Dad so proud.

It goes without saying that many people loved my father and that he touched the lives of a lot. To be honest, I’m still responding to messages of people who have shared countless sweet stories and memories that they have of my dad, and that fills me with an unmeasureable amount of comfort. Thank you all so, so much. I feel incredibly redundant in expressing my gratitude and appreciation, but there simply aren’t any other words. Semper fi

The last week since Christopher has left us has been tumultuous for everybody who was around him during his life. Grieving is no easy process and everybody processes things differently. For me, I have been shown the most love and support from dozens of people I met/heard about during my childhood, coming forward and telling me about the memories they had of my father. It’s incredible to see the countless people my dad touched during the last 40 years. I haven’t finished thanking each individual person who’s donated yet, but it goes without saying how absolutely amazed I’ve been by the dozens of people who have donated to help our family out. There are truly no words to express my gratitude, my appreciation, and my love, for anyone who’s supported us in ANY way since this has happened. I might just be sounding redundant at this point but quite frankly, I’m speechless otherwise. These types of situations and scenarios always seem so surreal to other people and like it could never happen to you - until it does. It is cliché in every way, but it’s true.

Due to the geneoristy of everybody who’s donated, we will be able to afford the costs of a funeral and services for my father. I’ll probably be closing this account at the end of the day, as we are so appreciative of everything that has already been donated to us and we are confident we will be able to make things work in our new lives, one day at a time. I cannot wait to finish thanking each and every one of you who’s donated, shared a story of my father, shared OUR story, and anyone who has reached out to my mom or I. I’ve been overwhelmed, in the best way. Just know we appreciate each and every single one of you.

For anybody wanting to attend my dad’s funeral, I will be posting information at the end of the day after we’ve gotten a total from the locations we’re using and we have actual confirmation of time. It will be at the end of next week, most likely on Thursday, April 11th, 2019, in Kent, Washington. I will have a time at the end of today and will post everything again on this soon. Thank you all so, so much. Please message me on Facebook if you have any questions. I will respond to everybody the end of tonight. ❤️

Sincerely,
Amara Rodriguez

Sincerely,
Amara Rodriguez
