Bunny's Leg Amputation Surgery

Help Bunny Get Her Groove Back! 

As some of you know, about 2 months ago we added a new member to the pack. Bunny is a sweet little lady who lost part of her back rear leg from trauma. When we applied to adopt her, we thought she was 3 years old -- she is actually 6 or 7 -- and did not know her leg was a potential issue.

Because her leg was never properly amputated it causes her problems. There are some nerve issues, which are very uncomfortable for her and cause the leg to twitch on its own, especially if she is nervous or excited.

Also, since the bone it too close to the skin and it gets irritated, sore, and raw. Since she cannot really use that leg, she has to hold it up awkwardly or lean it against her other leg, especially when using the bathroom.

We have consulted with our Veterinarian and an Orthopaedic Surgeon, both who feel that amputation is the best option for her. The prognosis is good since she is used to not really using that leg and it is more of a hindrance than a help.  The plan is to take the entire leg off and make her a true tripod! She gets around fine on three legs -- she is pretty fast when she runs in the yard -- and this surgery should give her a new lease on life.

We want her to live a long, healthy life and this surgery will enable her to move around better, be more comfortable, and not be held back by a leg that does not function and essentially just hangs there. As you can see by the picture, her back hunches over a lot as she favours her little nub leg. 

We would be so grateful for any amount donated as this surgery was an unforeseen expense -- and considerably more expensive than we envisioned. The total cost estimate is close to $4,000 so we are trying to offset some of that fee. Even just $5-$10 would help towards our goal. 

We would like to schedule the surgery in the next few weeks so she has time to heal before summer kicks into high gear! We want her to be able to enjoy the sunshine, grass, beach, and backyard without pain or anxiety.
