Built For The Struggle

I Gary B. Clifton, recently was diagnosed with prostate cancer a very serious disease that affects black men at a extremely high rate.  Factors include socioeconomic, environmental, cultural, as well as family history. I have decided to share my experiences with prostate cancer in hopes that I can assist others with being proactive in getting tested, obtaining assistance, and working through their treatments with family and loved ones. Each week I will be giving updates on my condition via my social media pages, as well as providing information to others that may assist them with dealing with prostate cancer as well as other cancers.

I have serviced my community for the last thirty five years (35) through our non-profit R.I.S.E. (Recreational Inner-City Sports & Education).  R.I.S.E. provides educational and recreational programs to both youth and adults and has been instrumental in saving lives of thousands of men and women. 

On September 23rd, my fifty-eighth birthday we will be hosting a fundraiser with the main goal of increasing the awareness of prostate cancer and provide additional funding to our other programs.  In addition to the fundraiser I've decided to start this in addition to help reach more of the masses. We are planning on working with other experienced organizations to try and host screenings, appointments, support groups and etc., as well as doing our own programs regarding prostate cancer through our Fathering Program. Therefore, moving forward prostate cancer awareness will be added to our platform where we expect to assist many men in our community.  I'd appreciate if you could share this information and encourage others to participate in our project.
