Building the Rob Gonsalves Legacy

Rob Gonsalves was a Magic Realist painter who shared his wonder of this gift of human existence with people worldwide.

Tragically and far too early, Rob Gonsalves died June 14, 2017. Rob lyrically connected the spiritual and philosophical manifestation of being with the physical world around him. In the last month of his life, his joy was overwhelmed with darkness and we all lost a path to everyday magic.

In 1990, Rob and I both exhibited and met at an art show. Our lives have been intertwined since. I was there at the start of his career. I saw how his childlike joy took flight and over the years, developed into a sophisticated, skilled, narrative in painting form. Rob Gonsalves was a wonderful dreamer, philosopher and had an intuitive grasp of Quantum Physics. The world is a far, darker place now for me, his widow and all who identified with his paintings. I want to keep his art alive and present for myself and for you, the public.

Google Rob Gonsalves to see his amazing paintings. This is his link to his official Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/RobGonsalves.Official/

Rob saw more value in sharing his vision with like minded people than financially profiting from work. His estate is not financially rich but he has left a legacy of his images. We want to acknowledge this legacy and share it with the public in two ways.

Firstly, money is needed to create a gravesite monument at Necropolis cemetery in Toronto, Canada where his life and career began. It is important for those in the world who connected with his vision to have a place where Rob Gonsalves' life will always have presence.  As we approach the first anniversary of his death, I would like to hold an unveiling ceremony of the monument at his grave site. The granite monument will be a 4' high plinth. Could you help in choosing images to be featured on the monument?

Secondly
, money is needed to start a series of art shows where the public can experience his original paintings (which will all be generously loaned by private collectors). It is my goal for the first show to happen this summer in Toronto where Rob Gonsalves found so much of his early inspiration. I need your help to offset the costs of renting a public gallery, advertising, shipping paintings, security and installation expenses.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated. If you donate $100 or more, you will receive a memorial poster of the last painting Rob completed; ready for release later this summer.

The last painting is called "Across the Pond" and will never be available in any other form to the public. It was conceived when Rob and I were considering how to show his paintings internationally. The traveller has climbed a tree to search for a path across the pond which is also a view from space looking at the land mass of Europe. After his death, I realized the traveller was not looking at Europe but was looking into the abyss. Rob Gonsalves' work was always autobiographical and often prophetic.

Thank you for your kind consideration and support in helping keep his joy and wonder in our lives.

Memorial stone update: the porcelain tiles are beautiful, the foundation has been poured and the stone has arrived. Black galaxy granite ( Rob would have loved the name of the stone). I am hoping that the text carving will be completed by Rob's death date, June 14th. I will send photos when it is in place. This is all thanks to the wonderful supporters of Rob Gonsalves Legacy.
