Building hope with endED Ltd

Tax deductible
This September myself, my family and many friends will be running in the City to Bay here in Adelaide to raise awareness and desperately needed funds for the treatment of Eating Disorders. Very dear to my heart, this is a cause that impacts my sister, Emily, and entire family as she battles the very depths of this illness today.

Just earlier this month, Emily spent a week receiving life-saving medical stabilisation at Flinders Medical Centre. Shockingly, it’s not rare - the mortality rate of eating disorders is 1 in 5. Today, she is once again searching for different treatment options, determined to get the support she so desperately needs in order to recover and save her life. However, devastatingly enough such a search is short-lived when you can count the number of treatment facilities in the country on your fingers. Support for the millions of Australians suffering from eating disorders is fatally scarce. In addition, a majority of the facilities we do have are severely underfunded.

I will be running to raise hope, awareness and funds for endED and Australia’s first (yes, first) residential treatment facility. Whilst inpatient treatment exists, these small programs are run within hospitals, therefore unavoidably creating an environment that is isolating, anxiety-provoking and ultimately detrimental to recovery. As a result, loved ones are left devastatingly powerless and helpless. Residential care brings new hope as it aims to offer the same level of care & support in a more homely environment, which eases the transition back home and increases the effectiveness of treatment.

This campaign offers me the chance to help bring awareness to this issue. With more awareness comes conversation, better treatment, less suffering and less otherwise avoidable deaths.
