building fund for alzheimer's care

My name is Shirley.  I would like to let everyone know I am watching my beautiful mother decline from a disease which is affecting so many individuals today and the unfortunate thing about this disease, there is no cure. The disease destroys and mutilates the brain so extensively it renders a person helpless in the final stages.  Care-givers seek assistance both financially and emotionally to help cope, however, it can be so stressful.
I not only seek help for my mother's care but for others diagnosed with dementia/alzheimer's disease.

I would like to build a log home in Mississippi suitable for providing adult day care and respite care for elderly individuals diagnosed with dementia/alzheimer's. I have a plan to start an organic garden , hire nutrition counselors, physical therapists, massage and aromatherapists, recreational and other specialties which  will help provide safe, humanistic and loving care to  clients who require assistance with ADL. I am focusing on rural Mississippi  because there is a significant need and I have a passionate interest because my mother is an integral element which has motivated me to "get moving and do something to help." The rapid mental deterioration of individuals with dementia requires rapid assistance and intervention from care-givers who have the tools and the support of others to help provide the care and to  their family member or loved one. There are days my mother does not even remember what happened five minutes ago or she forgets important  events which gravely affect her life. Perhaps you ask,how do you plan to change an individual's life by providing a safe haven and a place of respite for "burned out " care-givers.  One day at a time.
I am a nurse  but I am a daughter first. I have the clinical skills and professional knowlege to assist in providing this type of service .

If the funds are afforded, they will assist me in fulfilling a dream and a service to others who rely upon us to protect and support them and help them find direction when they have forgotten which way to turn or look ,to provide emotional support, physical and every aspect of care which will help them live  a better quality life and to support their care-givers in providing assistance with care.

I need the funds now, however, I need the support of others to help with planning, building, and long-term assistance from other health-care providers and personnel who may be interested in helping bring a realistic goal to fruition.  We would be providing a service which would benefit so many .

Obtaining the support and funds to assist  in making this a reality is very important because I am watching my mother decline and deteriorate from  a woman who was so  active and engaged in life , very proactive in supporting and caring for her family as well as others.  My grandmother was diagnosed with dementia and I watched my mother care for her with minimal support from the community .  There really is not much support available in  her area because it is so rural and many people are not willing to accept a diagnosis of dementia. Caring for a loved one with dementia is a 24 hour  responsibility and care-givers experience fatique and social isolation. I would help the care-givers also  with temporary relief  and offer suggestions for self-care as well.

I  will greately appreciate any assistance because it is not for me but for those I love and family members of other individuals who require  this type of service.

My path is a path of service and I realize God has granted me a gift to love and to care for those who rely upon me to assist them in living a quality life with both dignity and respect . To isolate our elderly and abandon them when they need us is not acceptable and I want to be  a catalyst for change. I spoke with someone today regarding a neighbor who has dementia. She was lost last night, walking down the street with three large shopping bags, mumbling to herself , totally disoriented. The neighbor took her in and let her sleep over, providing a safe haven for her. The neighbor who took her in is suffering with breast cancer, however, she was able to show compassion and care to someone who did not even realize where she was.  What would have happened if the neighbor had not intervened? Several individuals have walked into ponds, drowned or driven into the woods and suffered from hypothermia because they could not remember where they were or why. I cannot not save every life or help everyone, however, if I can help one , two , three or more, then I believe I will be doing  a great service. Why , my mother is my motivation. Please, I am reaching out to anyone who cares or wants to do something to help.  Alzheimer, dementia  is a disease which affects anyone. There is no cure, however, there is so much research and some is very promising.   While research continues, the care and resources must be available and our vigilance and compassion for others must  remain in the forefront to ensure  they will be cared for.  People with this diagnosis suffer from premature senility and generalized deterioration of the brain so their safety can be compromised.
