The children and families of Nepal

Donation protected

First I want to begin with saying that I know many of you have researched, selected, and donated to Nepal earth quake relief charity organizations already and this request might fall outside of your annual donation budget, but I have been personally asked to create this fundraising site from my distant family who currently resides in Kathmandu Nepal.  They are safe and have survived both earthquakes.  However, they can’t live inside their houses and must reside on the streets due to another potential quake.  They need your help!

Your loving donations will go to support the rebuilding of their childhood school in the Nuwakot District in Budhasing (43 miles north west of Kathmandu).  This is the first funding program created for this remote area of Nepal. 80% of the homes have been destroyed by both earthquakes, leaving the 4000 children and families who live there homeless.  Your donations will fund the following:

• Food and essential items for the families. 150,000 Nepali rupees (1,471.86 US dollars) supplies food and essentials for 50 families for a short period of time.

• Building temporary tin houses for the families. The average cost to build a temporary house costs around 10,000 Nepali rupees $98.00 US dollars.

• Constructing permanent brick houses that are built by hand using locally provided materials. An one to two room permanent house costs approximately 6 thousand US dollars to build.

My Name is Julie Ligon and I currently live in the United States.  I have recently changed my life path to help others who are in need, succesfully graduating with a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling and art therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  I am closely connected to Nepal and have known Deepak and his family for over 20 years.  When the earthquakes occured I felt helpless in regards to assisting my friends and family in Nepal.  I couldn't afford to fly there and when I received the request for help I decided to follow through with this project.

Iam honored to know his Deepak and his children Dipti and Prapti along with his loving wife Pabitra, sister Tara and extended family.  I am have visited Nepal twice, supported his children’s upbringing and welcomed his sister Tara into my home when she traveled to the US for first time.  Deepak is the most trustworthy, loyal human being I know and you can entrust him with distributing your precious donations.  Deepak is the president of the Kathmandu lion’s club, a social activist, an esteemed political member of the Thamel Kathmandu district and a member of a non-corrupt children’s orphanage.

Any donation amount will be appreciated and go a long way.  I will be updating this site frequently, with photos, and peronal statements, showing how your funding is directly helping the children and families of Budhasing.

Here is a personal message from Deepak:
