Bryce was a smart, kind, happy kid, loved by his family and friends. He was a light to anyone who knew him. In memory of Bryce, his family and friends started the Bryce Buchholz Fund to raise the money required to build a BMX/skate park in Lancaster, in Bryce’s memory. We wanted to provide a safe place for kids to go and ride bikes and skate in hopes we could prevent another family from going through the same tragedy we went through.
Through countless fundraisers and community support, we raised the funds needed to build the first phase of the Bryce Buchholz Memorial Bike Park which opened on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Keysa Park in Lancaster. On any given day, there are children and people of all ages using and enjoying the memorial that was built. It is an asset to the community and we have continued to fundraise; hoping to raise the additional funds needed to build phase 2, the final phase of that skate park. We have raised over $75,000 and are $30,000 away from our goal. We are determined to complete this project in 2017 to avoid the rising costs associated with it.
The whole point of building the park was not only to remember Bryce, but to remember how it happened. This hopefully will save or stop somebody else from doing that. Above all, we want to let people know when you drink and drive, you may not hurt yourself but you may hurt others and their families. Please don’t do it. Don’t drink and drive.
