Help Bruce Continue Helping Others

Donation protected
Bruce Valley's primary issue is that his heart is too big, both literally and figuratively.  He suffers from heart disease, COPD, and diabetes, along with ten other health issues. 24 years ago, after Bruce bought farmland in Corinna, Maine, and moved up from Portland, he was diagnosed with a blood disorder and given 6 months to live.

In the time since he bought his land, he has had multiple health issues and hospital stays (including 4 surgeries), but has been helping people without much fanfare for as long as he has been able to.

In the past 5 years alone, Bruce has donated $28,000.00 worth of produce to food pantries in Portland, Waterville, Bangor, Corinth, Dover, Corinna, and Dexter, as well as to low income seniors in Portland and Corinna.

This past fall and winter, Bruce lost the roof to his trailer, and his pipes froze and burst, making his home unlivable for himself and his rescued kitties. He also has no space to store crops over the winter like garlic, squashes, or onions.  There have been times this winter where he has not been able to get his tractor working to move snow out of the way, and as a result, has missed important medical appointments.

I am trying to raise money to buy him a storage barn with a living space above it. Bruce says he can get a grant to make the living space more amenable to his physical limitations, but he needs to actually have a building with running water and electricity first.  He already has people who are willing to put it together for him, but he needs money to purchase the building and foundation materials first.

Due to physical hardships, Bruce has a hard time getting everything planted and maintained throughout the season.  Any money that is raised beyond our goal will be used to hire more people to help Bruce throughout the growing season, which will also create local jobs.

He has a tractor that is currently functioning, but just barely. Ideally, a new tractor would allow him to double the amount of produce he is able to donate to food pantries and shelters.  Bruce believes in paying it forward, never takes a day off, and despite many challenges, he has helped a lot of people and hopes to continue doing so.

Meeting this goal will mean Bruce will be able to continue helping others and contributing fresh, local food to food banks, women's shelters, and homeless shelters throughout Maine.

Please consider supporting this campaign that will have a ripple effect throughout the whole state.
