To the friends and colleagues of Bruce P. Chadwick, 48 years old, deceased on December 29, 2016, this fund is a channel for you to participate in the celebration of Bruce's life, his spirit and friendship at a memorial service in his honor.
The memorial has been confirmed for January 21 from 1-4 pm at the Columbia University Faculty House at 64 Morningside Drive (at 116th Street), 2nd floor, in NYC. The memorial will begin at 1 pm sharp and will be followed by a reception with refreshments. Please arrive early to settle in. We indeed hope that all those who contributed to the fund can participate, if not in person, by sending something to be read at the ceremony, or included in a guest book. The funds were placed in a savings account under Peter May's supervision at JP Morgan Chase Bank to be used only for this purpose, to reserve the memorial facilities, catering, printing, flowers, and so on. We have discussed ways in which any excess funds be used, possibly toward support to others like Bruce who have faced difficult moments in times of great uncertainty, or for a purpose akin to Bruce's causes for society, environment and the poor all over the world. We will announce the names of donors during the memorial unless you have requested anonymity, and vet ideas at that time regarding the disposal of any remaining funds.
We (Peter May, Rosanni da Silva and Madeline Sunley) have organized this fund in Bruce's memory. We thank you all for your contributions to date. To be clear who we are: Peter and Bruce met in Brazil in the early 1990s and have remained fast friends ever since, collaborating in ecological economics, environmental actions and wide ranging conversation over the years. Rosanni and Bruce have been together as a couple for the past five years, having shared joys and tears, dancing tangos in the milongas of Manhattan. Madeleine and Bruce have been friends since they met at a conference years ago, and ended up living in close proximity in the UWS near Riverside Drive over the past years. We all share a common closeness with Bruce as well as a common goal to celebrate his life.
