Bruce Weller, Jr. Cardiac Recovery

Donation protected
Bruce Alan Weller, Jr. was faced with one of the toughest challenges of his 41 years on this earth. He was hospitalized with a new diagnosis of severe Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) due to an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly). He was hospitalized most of the month of October and has now had two echocardiograms, a heart angiogram, a cardiac MRI, and will be facing an implant of an Internal Cardiac Defibrillator on January 19, 2017.
Bruce has been very physically active his whole life and was walking up to 8 miles a day. He was working out at the martial arts studio daily and sometimes up to three times a day. The CHF brought an abrupt end to those workouts and put him on a medical leave from Western Washington University with only one semester left to go. He has been wearing a Zoll external defibrillator vest since leaving the hospital. He must wear it twenty four seven except for a thirty minute period daily for his shower. He has been slowly improving and can now actually walk out to the mail box and back without too much shortness of breath. The Zoll Vest is costing them $562.00 out of their pocket per month. His hospitalization caused Miranda to have to utilize all of her PTO to be with Bruce throughout all of this. The still face the implant and that implant will not be a cure for Bruce, it is only to be there to restart his heart if it goes into a dangerous rhythm.
His life will have to be rebuilt from the ground up as he goes through cardiac rehabilitation. He cannot return to martial arts until cleared by his cardiologist. He cannot return to school without a clearance from his Primary Care doctor. His medications have increased; he now must eat a low fat, no salt diet to stay stable. He is limited to how much he can lift. He has been offered an appointment with a University of Washington cardiologist who is heading a clinical study on congestive heart failure. He may also be facing the possibility of a cardiac transplant in the future. Right now they face approximately $7000.00 in medical debt right now with more to come. Insurance only covers so much and the rest will be their responsibility.
They are also facing having to move into a new rental by September of this year. Bruce is working hard at understanding this illness and he is finding that his physical limitations are challenging him mentally. Bruce has overcome many things in his short 41 years. He daily battles Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, and has been in recovery for drugs and alcohol since 2002. He is currently working on a book while he is here at home and unable to go far by himself. By getting some of this current debt paid down now, Bruce and Miranda can face the new challenges that are yet to come with some peace of mind.
Anything that you can do to help this young man get back to his life in full will be much appreciated by Bruce, Miranda, and the rest of their families. Please help if you can and God Bless you. Prayers are also requested from one and all. God Bless You!
