Hello Friends,
With a heavy heart and cautious optimism I bring you news that I have recently received of having Stage 4 Melanoma, which has metastasized to the other parts of my body. I am being provided treatment at Legacy Good Samaritan, in Portland, Oregon. After a series of CT’s, MRI’s, Pet CT, Blood culture, and biopsy we have set an initial plan to begin this fight.
As cliche as it may be, this is definitely a “marathon, not a sprint” situation. I have already finished radiation to target certain areas mapped out. We will monitor progress daily, and continue to adapt and modify the course of action as needed. The next phases are immunotherapy, as well as other medications. Using alternative and supplemental treatments, raw diet, Rick Simpson, smoothies/superfood, acupuncture, yoga, and other possibilities are being strategized.
Still waiting on results to calculate a timetable and what else to expect. It is the ultimate game of hurry up and wait. "This treatment could change everything, but we won't be able to view an accurate indication of progress until we gjve it time to do it's thing." After three weeks on this "adventure", it is clear to me that patience, optimism, and a simplified approach to everything are what will help pull through this experience. Thank you again for ALL your support and allowing me to focus on these core values at this present time!
I am blessed to have received health insurance prior to my diagnosis, but this will only cover conventional treatment and even that's not guaranteed. Through my research I have learned that I have a much better chance of beating this if I complement these medicines with alternative/non-traditional treatments. This will be a costly battle. Therefore, in addition to your thoughts and prayers I'm hoping you can find it in your heart to contribute to my recovery. Even $1 can make a difference and would be greatly appreciated.
