Brittney needs open heart surgery, again. ❤️
Brittney has been a fighter all her life. At the very young age of 11 weeks old she underwent her first open heart surgery at Bostons Children's Hospital. Then at the age of 19, she was a freshman in college when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and immediately underwent her second major surgery in life, a full craniotomy at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Now at the age of 25 Brittney needs a pulmonary valve replacement which requires a second open heart surgery, and will be preformed at University of California, San Diego. In August Brittney moved to San Diego to begin her doctorate degree. She went not knowing a single soul across country. Because she is so determined to succeed in life, I as her mother couldn't hold her back if I tried. I am very sad knowing she is 3500 miles away from home, with no family whatsoever, but I am very hopeful through our family and friends we can raise some money to help with the extraordinary medical bills that have already began to pile up, along with the financial burdens she will incur from being out of work.

When I was a baby I had open heart surgery to save my life. Exactly 6 years ago today I had brain surgery to save my life. A few days ago I found out I need to have another open heart surgery to save my life. I knew how and where to place the leads on an EKG and heart monitor before I could probably ride a bike. I always impressed (and sometimes embarrassed if I corrected) the med students. When I was a kid if you asked me who had the best cheese fries I would say DuPont Children's Hospital without hesitation(sorry chop). I use to LOVE going to school there and decorating the tiles in the art room. They had this educational computer game about turtles I was obsessed with, idk why loI I knew the difference between an MRI and CT scan probably before I knew my times tables. I remember always going to the library with my mom to pick out audio books to listen to while I had MRIs done because I hated the scary noises it made but I had to stay still and they couldn't sedate me. When I got a little older my mom use to let me play hooky once a year while I had to have a 24hr heart monitor on because I hated wearing it in school (shout-out to Hannah for always playing hooky with me ✌). When I had to have brain surgery I wasn't scared and no one understood why, but I think it’s because I've had procedures done and been in hospitals my whole life that I was oddly comfortable with it all. I don't take my days for granted, and I actually act on that I don’t just say it. I live in the present more than in the future because I've experienced more than once what it's like to almost not have one or wonder what it's going to be like. It changes you and your perception of the world. You suddenly don’t care about what society says and doing what you're "suppose" to do, going through the motions in life...instead you listen to your heart and what your past experiences have taught you....but it sure as hell isn’t easy...but then again no one said life was either....thanks to everyone who’s stayed by my side on this journey ...we’re not done yet ✌
