Brittany, The Blind Great Dane

Donation protected
Meet Brittany, a young Great Dane rescued in December 2016 by The Dog Lady of Indiana. Brittany was born blind and spent the first 10 months of her life on a 6' chain, neglected and unseen by a Veterinarian except for the time her human cut her back toes off with their lawn mower. She also had yeast infections in both ears along with a horror of many other medical issues.

By the time The Dog Lady of Indiana intervened, Brittany was in heat (still on the chain allowing any passing dog, or pack of dogs to attack and overtake her), never vaccinated, full of hook/round/tape/whip worms (including having Giardia and colitis), and showed symptoms of canine influenza. Brittany was suffering from a myriad of medical issues and needed immediate and long term Veterinary care. Not surprisingly, at that time, Brittany was especially aggressive toward other dogs and very hard to handle for the first 30 days after being rescued.

She was so stunted from being on that awful 6' chain that she wove precise 6' diameter circles into the ground, despite not being leashed. It was literally dizzying walking her. Every morning, Brittany wakes up "bouncy", thrilled with her life now. She actually hops into the air, all fours above ground, and kicks her legs like a colt. You'll see for yourself from the videos posted herein, and on her facebook page :

We are thrilled to report that as of May 2017, Brittany is healthy, happy, playful (with humans AND dogs!!), and developing very strong spatial cognitive mapping skills. She also has her own "seeing-eye-dog", Artemis, the English Bull Mastiff, who is very patient and very kind to Brittany, occasionally scolding her but never seriously.

Brittany needs to have three surgeries.
+ The first is to remove both eyes via a procedure called Enucleation.
Her eyes "water" all the time, are painful and atrophying.
+ The second is to repair the two back toes that were botched by the original Veterinarian. Number two and three metatarsal need to be "trimmed" so they don't poke through Brittany's toes when she places her foot wholly on the ground.
+ The third is to remove and biopsy her right anal gland which has ruptured and is currently being treated with antibiotics and steroids, not a long term therapy.

Any financial assistance you fellow animal lovers can provide would be greatly appreciated. You know who you are ;) ! From $5.00 to $50.00, your donation will have meaningful results for amazing, precious, loving Brittany. Her bills from our other family doctor, Edwardsville Animal Clinic, [phone redacted], in Georgetown, Indiana, are available for your perusal on
our Brittany's facebook page . Dr. Rebecca Loftus and her great staff have gone far and above the call of duty, drastically reducing Brittany's medical bills and maintaining her care as you and I try to raise the funds to pay for it all.

We will be posting lots of photos, videos and updates that will keep everyone up-to-date on Brittany's surgeries, recoveries and progress thereafter.

Now, prepare to fall in love...meet Brittany!
