Most of you who come to this site already know our story. In December of 2014 we went to the Cleveland Airport and picked up 14 year old Leonid, wondering what we had gotten ourselves into. We didn't realize then how we would come to love him, and the grief we would feel and the tears that would flow when we saw him off from the airport in January.
We hosted him again over the next two summers and the next two Christmases. This boy has not had a family since he was 6 years old, but he responded to the love acceptance in our family and he fit in beautifully with our family. Choosing to be adopted was a hard decision for him as he had two older sisters in Ukraine, but over the last year and a half he has been anxious to come home.
We are approaching the end of our adoption journey, but there are still some hurdles and expenses ahead of us. Court went well and we are now the happy parents of 17-year-old Daniel Wayne Sutton! Ukraine has a 10 day waiting period in which anyone can object to the court decree granting the adoption. This will be up on August 11. Debra is planning to leave for Ukraine on August 9, and will get a new birth certificate, and then pick up Daniel so that they can apply for a new I.D. card, passport and visa, and have a medical test. This will involve living in Ukraine for 4 weeks, and possibly more.
An Open Door Adoption Agency estimated our total expenses at $31,315, not including an extra trip we needed to make because of the needs of our family, and also not including a couple thousand dollars for help to care for our other children while we are away.
We believe that God has providentially brought this young man into our lives and has blessed us with the privilege of helping him into a better future. We appreciate your prayers and any support you choose to give.
