Bring Nomo Home

Donation protected
On May 20th, Megan and Vito woke up and went about their normal morning routine, when they realized something was very wrong. Their cat, Nomo, described by Megan as a friendly, affectionate doofus, was not waiting by his bowl for them to feed him, he was nowhere to be found.

After frantically turning their apartment completely upside down, the only conclusion they could draw was that their beloved Nomo has gotten out somehow between the previous night and that morning. Nomo is not a spring chicken, he is a 14 year old male, considered a “senior” in the kitty world. To make matters worse, he had just been moved from the house he grew up in/knew for 14 years to a new house.

The search was on, and so many people came to help. Many MANY days and nights were spent wandering the area of Oak Hill, calling for Nomie, and each time they returned from another search, they came home hoping that Nomie would be waiting up on the stairs, totally regretting his trip out, and wailing to be let back in. Each time, disappointment greeted them instead. Their story was shared far and wide, and even complete strangers were out joining in the search. It meant so much to Megan and Vito to know what kind, compassionate people there are in the world.

A week went by, then another, and another, with several “imposter” Nomie sightings and leads that got their hopes up only to be a false alarm. They had all but given up the hope that they would ever be reunited with their beloved kitty again.

And then something, God, the universe, intervened. Megan and Vito got a call that Nomie has been found. He had gotten himself into an enclosed space that he could not get out of, and was trapped there for who knows exactly how long. He was lifeless, could not walk or even lift his head, severely malnourished and dehydrated. They rushed him to the Vestal Veterinary Hospital praying they could save him. Had Nomo been found even 24 hours later he would have been dead.

The past 3 days have been touch-and-go, initially, they thought Nomie wouldn’t make it. But somehow, he has defied the odds and is making slow but steady progress toward recovery. They are not out of the woods yet, but things are starting to look up.

Nomo is still in the hospital. As you can imagine, the emergency vet bills have been adding up, and when all of this is said and done, Megan and Vito are facing a big financial challenge that neither of them were prepared for.

As a fellow kitty mommy my heart has been breaking for them throughout this whole ordeal, first losing Nomo, then finding him in the state he was in, and of course doing anything they could to save him. Anyone who has ever had an emergency situation like this with a pet knows how difficult and heart-wrenching it is.

Megan is one of my dearest friends, and someone who would never ask for help. I created this gofundme page to help offset her and Vito’s costs and ease their mind during this difficult time. Please consider making a donation; every little bit will help to finally bring Nomo home.
