Get Mango (The Beach Dog) to the UK

Mango grew up on a little island off the coast of Bali in Indonesia. Raised by some surfers who came and went, she still wears the blue neckerchief they gave her. She doesn’t have a home or somewhere to shelter from the torrential storms in rainy season and wanders the beach scavenging for food. She is often overpowered by other more alpha dogs and therefore she is the skinniest and wobbliest of the lot. She has the sweetest temperament and we think she has survived by being cute. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with her and for her to start sleeping under our bed - in a way, we feel like she adopted us!



Although a paradise for humans, we have seen awful things since being in Bali: dogs with faces half eaten by maggots, dogs hit by cars, dogs severed by dog catcher wire, dogs with their eyeballs hanging out, meat trade survivors. Every six months on Mango’s particular island, the dogs are culled by poison dart. There are too many street dogs and not enough resources to help them. We don’t want to leave her here but the process of getting her out is complicated and expensive as taking pets out of Bali is somewhat a grey area. We have worked out a way kindest to her that doesn’t involve quarantine but does involve a few boat rides and a flight.


There is no vet on the island but there are charities who visit and provide sterilisation and aid. Any excess funds raised will go towards the good work they do and helping the dogs of Nusa Lembongan.
