Obviously, it feels weird to ask for help, but I'm very close to being able to bring my daughter Hickory home for a month. Many of your who know us know that I haven't been able to afford child care for her since January. She has been living full time with relatives out of state since February.
I work two part-time jobs in addition to any contract work I can pick up on the weekends. With student loans and trying to pay down credit card debt built up during a time of unemployment, the $600+ a month in child care wasn't something I could continue to do. The state only provides assistance for families within 150% of the poverty line. On average my income puts me at 170% but is often lower than that; because the state only looks at averages, we don't qualify. I was offered half-off a month long summer childcare program starting in June. I have the funds to pay the fees for the program, but since the program ends at 3 pm each day, I am hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of having a babysitter pick her up and watch her from 3-5:30 pm Monday through Friday while I finish the work day. I'm hoping to be able to pay them $100 a week, plus have some wiggle room in case I'm late home from work.
It would mean the world to me to get to spend a whole month together. She is growing up so fast, and I feel like I'm missing it all. This is not a permanent solution. I'm working to find one for the coming school year. This would just be a chance for us to spend a month together as a family. It has only been the two of us for her entire life, and it is hard on both of us to not be together. If you are able to help in any way, Hickory and I would appreciate it so much. I just want us to be together, even if it is just for a little while.
