I am reaching out to all who know and love Banu!! Here is your chance to help!!

Imagine this…You suffer a “mere” broken toe and 3 years later this minor event has cost you your career, robbed you of independence, mobility, sleep…and left you in severe and persistent pain.

That is what has happened to my beautiful Mom, Banu. What first appeared to be a small fracture developed into a crippling painful inflammation called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS, CRPS fact sheet ). Also known as the suicide disease, it is one of the most painful known medical conditions (42:50 on the McGill pain scale).

No matter how you got to know my Mom….whether through Nanaimo Home Support, through my brother Kris or me, or as her friend, you know her to be compassionate, giving, vivacious, strong, and passionate about life. Both through nursing and through parenting, my mom has derived so much joy through helping, supporting, blessing and feeding so many!

Banu has tried countless treatments, and these days, Banu’s life is spent in therapy, at pain clinics, and at home feeling exhausted after sleepless nights due to pain that no narcotic can relieve. Nerve blocks and ketamine treatments offer temporary relief but sadly, the CRPS has spread from her foot to her left hand. There is a risk of the CRPS spreading further.

THERE IS HOPE!!! And that’s where you come in!

Banu is a prime candidate for an intense, 5 day ketamine treatment, that can potentially give her 6-8 months of pain relief! Through the public system, the waitlist is 4 years. Given all of Banu’s suffering so far, this is not an option for those of us who love her so much!

I am seeking your help to raise $15,000 so Banu can get this intense treatment in May 2017! Each day costs $2500, plus Banu would need to stay in a hotel in Vancouver with a caregiver.
