Brightheart: A Small Farm Startup

Donation protected

Welcome to Brightheart Farm!

Brightheart Farm is a third-generation family farm in beautiful Forsyth County, NC. We produce vegetables, fruit, and chicken and duck eggs. We are committed to contributing to our local food system and we believe that farms bear an important responsibility to build community among our neighbors.

Brightheart Farm is a cooperatively run farming business that takes our responsibilities to the land and to our community seriously. We are excited to meet our neighbors, grow good food, and build community together.

Help us Build Brightheart! Whether you donate $1 or $1,000, your contribution matters and is appreciated! Keep reading below to learn more about us, why we're raising money, and the Donor Appreciation Farm Dinner we're planning for the spring!

Who are We?
Brightheart Farm is a small, worker-owned, cooperative farm . This means that the people who do the work all share equal ownership of the business. We think that’s pretty cool! And we think our “farm family” is pretty cool too, though, we’ll admit — we’re a little biased. Together, we possess a wide range of skills, talent, perspectives, and life experiences that we use to guide Brightheart toward success. Learn more about us.

Where We've Come From, Where We're Going
Brightheart Farm has been in the Sparks family since 1964. Tyler Sparks, the grandson of Cecil and Evelyn Sparks, bought the farm in 2016 and has been working with his partners, friends, and family to reinvigorate the farm and launch the farm business.

Tim and Steve Sparks gather firewood for their first winter at the farm, 1965.

Tyler and Jessie Sparks watch their Dad, Steve, and Brother, Bryan, work in the garden, 1990.

Bryan Sparks stands by the family's garden, 1992.

Our shared vision is that Brightheart Farm will become an established asset for our community, providing good food and connecting people.  Throughout the year we plan to host farm workdays, social events, and workshops, all with the goal of creating enjoyable experiences, building community, and sharing knowledge and skills.

Building a Farm is  a Big Deal
It takes a lot of planning, hard work, advice, and money. Our goal in 2018 is launch our operations and begin bringing good food to market locally. Using the money from this fundraiser, we plan to invest in the following areas:

Donor Appreciation Farm Dinner
Everyone who makes a donation to our fundraiser will be invited to a special evening at Brightheart Farm. If you like delicious local food, interesting folks, live music, and a bonfire, this might just tickle your fancy! We're looking at a Friday or Saturday night in June, 2018 for this event and will nail down the details in April. Everyone who donates will receive special communications about this event.
