Brian’s Liver transplant fund

Donation protected
GOAL $60,000

Hi, my name is Penny, I am Brian’s aunt. I need to raise money to help my nephew. I hope that you can help by donating any amount, it all adds up.

Brian is the most loving, caring & giving person, and has been sick almost 70% of his life, and now needs a LIVER TRANSPLANT, to save his life.
Brian is a single Dad and has been raising his now, 16 yr old daughter, Marisa on his own.

Brian still works full time, but as sick as he is, I don’t know how he does it. At the age of 12 Brian was diagnosed with Ulcerated Colitis & has suffered severely with it ever since. He just turned 50.
Brian has had numerous surgeries in the Buffalo NY area hospitals, and about 2 and a half years ago he was diagnosed with a genetic disease, PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) and Hemochromatosis. Since being diagnosed with PSC he has had 7 hospitalizations, resulting in 5 surgeries (to unblock his bile ducts) some of which put him in the critical care unit.

Brian’s Grandfather (my Dad) died from PSC at the age of 40, after suffering for 4 yrs, which was 52 years ago. There were no transplants back then. PSC is a GENETIC DISEASE.
It is a very painful & debilitating disease, yet Brian does not complain or feel sorry for himself, he never has. He never wants to make it about him. Brian has always been and still is the first person wanting to help others, even as sick as he is. He is an amazing Dad, and he has always been there for his daughter, Marisa.

After a trip to UPMC in Pittsburgh for testing, Brian was told that the only way to help him now is with a liver transplant, using a live donor. Brian is too ill to wait out the list. He has to have a pint of his blood removed biweekly to keep the Hemochromatosis from destroying his heart & kidneys as well. This is because his intestines will no longer absorb iron. His insurance does not cover much of the cost.

Brian’s cousin, Ryan has bravely stepped up, volunteered, and he flew to UPMC to be tested to be Brian’s donor. He is also such an amazingly loving & generous guy.
Ryan is a match!!! Both of their teams of doctors will be performing the transplant surgeries in January.

Both Brian & Ryan are so courageous and loving, I am so lucky to have both of these guys as my nephews. There are not enough words to explain how proud I am of both Brian and Ryan.

Besides the accumulating medical bills, there will also be lodging & travel expenses for Brian, Ryan and their caretakers while in the hospital and after they are discharged (long stays) from the hospital. Brian will also be needing extremely expensive meds for the rest of his life, in order to survive.
They will need to be nearby UPMC for an extended amount of time as well their caretakers.
Ryan resides in Tucson, AZ but he will also need to stay nearby after his discharge for an extended time along with his caretaker until his doctors feel he has recovered enough to go home and even then he will need to fly back for his check ups.
Brian & his family reside in the Buffalo, NY area. Their families will be staying in Pittsburgh as well.
Both Ryan & Brian will be off from work for an extended period without pay.
They both work for Homeland Security.

PLEASE help Brian by donating.
Any amount will be greatly appreciated and will be used for medical bills, travel expenses, lodging, lost wages and future meds. Brian will be taking expensive meds for his lifetime for his body to except his new liver.

Brian did not ask me to set this up, but it is much needed and he will appreciate it greatly. He never asks for anything, so I am doing this for him. I hope that together we can help & show him how much he means to us.

I hope to raise enough money to keep Brian from worrying about his bills, both medical & at home. He will still have the same living expenses at home even while he is in Pittsburgh saving his life, as will Ryan & their caretakers.

Please share Brian’s story, He truly deserves it, and I want to help him. He should only have to worry about getting healthy.
Thank you all so very much.
I will keep you all updated.
