Brianna's AML fund
Brianna, who will be 9 in just a few weeks was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia this weekend, and has begun a VERY aggressive treatment of Chemotherapy. I ask that you all pray for her, the family, and doctors. The therapy will be inpatient and the first round is expected to take 4-6 weeks. They are predicting 3 full rounds of this. During this time, they will have many medical expenses that they will need help paying for.
Please help take the financial burden off of them, so they can focus 100% of their time on Brianna, and giving her the strength that she needs to beat this battle.
We all want to help them during this time, so please donate what you can to help them. We really appreciate everyone’s kindness, and thank you so much for your donation in advance
Brianna had almost made it to one year past transplant and has relapsed with 91% Leukemia. She is back in John's Hopkins University Hospital with the goals of getting back into remission. Once that happens she will be scheduled for 2nd Transplant.
Brianna is a fighter and she is working hard!! She loves to get mail and small packages! Her mom is there everyday with Brianna helping too. We will continue to update you with information. Thank you all for your continued support.
Her address is
Johns Hopkins Hospital
1800 Orleans St.
Baltimore, MD 21205
Update-Bri's body is almost ready to go through her transplant. Her liver enzyme counts are a little bit too high still...we will check them again on Monday and her doctor will decide from there what to do. She will also have a small surgery on Monday to get a new central line. If all goes well with the liver, she will begin high dose chemotherapy drugs on Monday evening and have the transplant on April 3rd.
We expect to be inpatient at Johns Hopkins for approx 4-6 weeks. After we are discharged we will need to stay in Baltimore for a couple months with many visits to the oncology clinic.
Her 1/2 match donor has been confirmed as her father, Josh Merritt. She needs his immune system to get rid of the remaining cancer in her body. Medicine has not been able to do it. The hope is that the slight mismatch will help to cause a "fighting" effect that will eliminate the cancer.
She will be given several drugs to minimize this "fight" and to hopefully only harm the cancer cells and not the rest of her body. Josh will have his procedure on April 3rd and Bri will receive his marrow the same day.
This photo makes me happy. The wall is located in Jayden and Briannas school. What a wonderful message to give these children!
Don't forget this school, Showell Elementary, is hosting a bone marrow donor drive in Briannas honor on Friday, March 31st from 5-9pm. She is trying to "be the change". We want to save lives! Yesterday was a sad day on my news feed, 3 lives were lost to cancer-only a small portion of what total lives were really lost yesterday to this disease. These drugs are not enough...we need to find a REAL cure. For now, transplant is the best option for blood cancers and we need to make sure that these patients have that option by donating healthy bone marrow!
Thank you all for EVERYTHING you are doing for our family!
Brianna is making great progress today!! She decided she wanted to walk "laps" and made it around 1 1/2 times:) She thinks she should be able to just go do whatever but she found that she wasn't quite strong enough yet...
She's stopped vomiting and started eating a little. She's getting a little better at her lung exercises also. I expect tomorrow will be even better.
I'm so thankful to have everyone praying for her, it's obviously working!
She has a few other bumps that we need to overcome also. I'll update when I know exactly what's going on. Her blood work is showing that her liver is not happy...and her bone marrow still has some leukemia (we don't have an accurate % yet).
I can't wait for the day I can update that she's finished with all of this! She's tough but I sure wish she didn't have to be...
God is working on her and has big plans. I can tell by how her personality is developing and the thoughts that she has about life. My girl is something else
Update from Brandy:
Update on Brianna- As most of you know, Bri was able to come home on Saturday for the first time since Nov 11th. We will be returning to Baltimore tomorrow to visit the outpatient clinic for a check up and to discuss the next treatment with her doctor.
Brianna still has 21% leukemia in her bone marrow, which means we cannot go to transplant yet. She will need another round of chemo to attempt remission once again...
She seems to be doing well and has been able to have a little fun and relaxation at home. We are not completely sure when she will be readmitted but I'm assuming by the beginning of the week.
Thank you all for following her story.
So happy that she got to go home. Enjoy Sweetie, you deserve it. My prayers will continue for you all. God hears our prayers.
We will continue to keep Brianna and family in our prayers. God bless.
