Brian Brown's Medical Fund

My name is Abby Pate.  For those of you who do not know, I am Brian's son's girlfriend.  The doctors and nurses have recommended that we set up this account to help with the many medical bills that are, and will continue, to flood in.  I have known this family on a personal level for almost four years.  Nothing has hurt my heart more than to see such a loving and amazing family go through so much heartache.  I have grown to love each of them as if they were my own family.  For people who do not know Brian, he is a loving and caring family man.  He has always been willing to put others above himself.  He has extended his kindness to many in the community and has left a lasting impact in the hearts of all who know him.  His positive and joking attitude has never failed to make smile.  Throughout this entire journey, he has repeatedly told everyone, "Don't worry, God is not done with me yet!"  His strength has been an inspiration and comfort to everyone.  I apologize for the long-winded speech, but I think a lot of this man!

A description of the many medical issues that he has been through over the past six years is listed below for anyone who is curious.

In 2012, an unexplained sickness put them in the office of a gastrologist.  This doctor diagnosed Brian with ulcerative colitis.  Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease distinguished by inflammation of the large intestine.  For treatment, he was given many different medications.  The only thing that seemed to work was steroids.  The doctors urged him to find an alternate solution, because all steroids have harmful effects on the body.  To do this, they had to have a liver biopsy done.  The biopsy results showed that he had stage IV liver disease due to an auto immune disease called primary sclerostin cholangitis.  The PSC causes cirrhosis which clogs the liver and causes it not to function properly.  Shortly after hearing this news, another tragedy came.  In June 2013, a horizontal tornado caused a tree to fall on the neighbor's house.  Brian, being the amazing person that he is, went to clear the tree without a second thought.  As he was climbing down the ladder to get off the roof, the ladder slid out from under him and he fell onto the porch, landing on his back.  After calling 911, they realized that this fall had paralyzed him instantly.  They believe that the steroids mentioned earlier were likely to deteriorate the bones and cause the paralysis to occur more easily.  Once they got to the hospital, the performed a spinal fusion to correct the damage.  A week after this surgery, he passed two sub massive pulmonary embolisms or "widow makers."  He spent two months at the hospital rebuilding his strength and adjusting to his new way of life.  He inspired many with the determination he kept throughout his battle to regain health.  (He is not one to ever give up) The next problem the family faced was in April 2016.  They unexpectedly lost their eldest daughter, Brittney Brown.  Brittney was a bubbly person who brought smiles to the faces of anyone around.  She served as an EMS/paramedic for over two years.  She also volunteered as a firefighter for Endy Fire Department.  She made a great impact on those in her community and stole the hearts of many.  Ever since, Brian has been getting increasingly worse.  He has been in and out of the hospital since December 2016.  In December, his ammonia levels spiked, which caused confusion and agitation.  He had to be sedated and put on a ventilator for almost three days.  He has been battling with infection and other medical issues since.

The doctors hope that Brian will receive a liver transplant very soon.  This goal will only cover the amount needed for the liver transplant, no other medical expenses.  Any amount is greatly appreciated, but we ask above all to just be kept in your thoughts and prayers.
