As you may and/or may not know, Brett Clark's wife Ruth has been going through some real health issues in the past few months. She has been in and out of the hospital battling with Crohn's Disease.

This week, she had an emergency surgery after doctors discovered a hole in her colon.  The good news is that she is stable and that doctors think that the surgery has an 80 percent chance of curing her Crohn's Disease.  The bad news is that she will be in and out of the hospital for additional procedures and for recovery time for the next 4-6 months.

If you are interested in lending Brett and Ruth a helping hand, consider making a donation here for whatever amount you feel comfortable giving them.

Brett mentioned that his out of pocket deductible for his insurance is $3,000.  He also mentioned that he could really use the help to pay for babysitters for his three sons, house cleaners to help both him and Ruth keep their house clean while they are working through the next few months, or takeout food so that no one has to worry about cooking for awhile.

Those are simple things that I think we could all chip in for -- and I know it would ease his mind knowing that those kinds of things were handled.

Thanks for joining together to show Brett and Ruth how much they mean to all of us!

So FINALLY Brett and Ruth have gotten some good news, y'all: Ruth will be moving to a local rehab center in the next day or so! She will spend the better part of a month there rebuilding her strength so that she can go home.

While doctors haven't figured out exactly what is going on with Ruth's liver yet -- they are still waiting on the results from the biopsy to come back from a specialist in Arizona -- there's nothing about her liver that has doctors concerned enough to keep her in the hospital.

Leaving the hospital will definitely be a blessing! Next step: Getting home.

Brett even got in for a full day of work today, so slowly but surely things are moving in the right direction.

I'm turning the account over to Brett today so that he can access the monies that all y'all donated. That doesn't mean the fund is closed -- so encourage people to continue donating! It just means that Brett is in charge of updates now.

Thanks for all you've done to show Brett and Ruth that they are loved.

So yesterday marked the 32nd day that Ruth has been in the hospital, y'all -- and while she's making progress, that progress is slow.

She is out of Intensive Care -- so that's a good thing.

But she is still seeing fluctuations in her ammonia levels and in her liver function. Her doctors aren't sure what that all means. Some think that her liver function is trending in the right direction -- but that it's just taking longer to stabilize than expected. Others are concerned that there might be some other underlying cause that that they haven't discovered yet.

Ruth had a liver biopsy done last week. The results should be back soon and they should help doctors to further figure out just what is going on.

In the meantime, the goal is to get Ruth's strength up so that she can move around on her own. That means lots of physical therapy. The goal is to also get Ruth off of her feeding tube -- which also means lots of physical therapy. Being in the hospital for as long as Ruth as been in the hospital can really weaken your body and that takes work to repair.

Keep Brett and Ruth in your thoughts and prayers. The goal is to see her in a rehab facility for more physcial therapy by the end of next week and home by the beginning of April. That means there is still a lot of work to be done - and bills to be paid -- between now and then.

Also, think about sharing this Go Fund Me out in your social networks. Let's see if we can get Brett and Ruth some more money to help pay their insurance deductible.

Rock on,
Bill

All,

It's been a tough week for Brett and Ruth. Ruth's liver has been acting up and the ammonia levels in her blood have continued to spike to really high levels. At one point in the week, Ruth was moved back into the ICU -- which very much felt like a step backward for the family.

Today, they did a liver biopsy and found out that she has Steatohepatitis -- which is a fatty liver disease. They aren't sure if that is what is causing all of Ruth's current struggles, but the good news is that they can begin treating the Steatohepatitis right now. Brett and his doctors are hopeful that will help Ruth to make progress.

Ruth has also started physical therapy to gain her strength back -- and while she is still on a feeding tube, she has started to eat liquids thickened with honey. That is a step towards getting off of the feeding tube.

Long story short: Ruth is making progress -- but it has been slower than Brett and Ruth had hoped for. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

And more importantly, please share out this Go Fund Me in your social networks. Let's see if we can get Brett and Ruth's entire medical deductible covered.

It's been a really positive week for Brett and Ruth, y'all.

Ruth has been doing physical therapy and voice therapy all week long and she is getting stronger and stronger by the day. The best news is that she was moved out of ICU and into a regular hospital room this morning! With luck, she will even be eating solid food in the next day or so.

While she will still be in the hospital for another week and then have to spend time in a rehab center before coming home, every bit of progress is worth celebrating -- especially given how difficult last week was at this time.

Please consider posting this to your social streams. Let's see if we can get Brett and Ruth closer to their $3,500 goal. While Ruth's health is certainly coming around, any financial support that we can give the Clarks will help them make it through the next few months without worry.
