My name is Brent Lacy. I am a Rural Ministry Specialist for National Network of Youth Ministries. I have followed God’s calling and served as a rural youth pastor for 14 years in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana. God has now called me to serve in a different role than traditional church youth ministry. He has called me to join the efforts of National Network of Youth Ministries in encouraging and equipping youth workers all over the country. This is kingdom work that reaches across the boundaries of denominations with a goal of developing healthy youth workers that stay at their churches longer, stay in ministry longer, and reach more students with the unchanging hope that comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Rural Ministry has the potential to reach large numbers of students with the message of the Gospel. Almost half (49%) of the public school districts in the United States are in rural areas. These rural districts are also the fastest growing type of school district in public education today.
The harvest is here, but today’s youth workers face incredible challenges, including shrinking budgets and churches that are in decline. (It has been reported that as many as 76% of our churches are facing declining attendance.) National Network of Youth Ministries seeks to come alongside churches and youth workers by helping them connect and meet together in regular times of prayer and building relationships. Healthy networks can develop strategies and share resources to reach their students and communities for Christ.
As a Rural Ministry Specialist, I will serve youth leaders by:
1) Encouraging local youth leader networks already in existence,
2) Helping to build new networks in unserved areas,
3) Helping to establish "Rural Ministry Networking Best Practices" that will be tried and tested in my area, then utilized in other rural areas in the US.
This position requires me to raise 100% of my salary and ministry expenses. My prayer is that you will partner with us in this “God-sized” task. My family and I are prayerfully working to develop a team that will support this work through both prayer and finances.
