Friends and Loved Ones,

This past week, a dear friend of mine who is like family and his wife- Jason and Breidi Toney, received some tragic news.  Breidi has been diagnosed with an extremely rare, degenerative brain disease called Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob (vCJD) disease.  Only about 350 people are diagnosed with vCJD each year.  It is a rapidly progressive and terminal disease for which there is no cure.  Treatment of vCJD remains supportive, and no specific therapy has been shown to stop the progression of this heartbreaking disease.

On Friday, surrounded by the Toney-Donohoo family, Jason and Breidi broke the news to their children- Ellen (16), Heath (11), and Mallory (6), that their mother would be in heaven within 6-12 months.  As you can imagine, they are completely devastated.

After hearing the news from Jason's brother Jeremy, I immediately wanted to help this precious family out in anyway possible.  I thought of how the "Make-a-Wish" foundation grants special trips to children with terminal cancer and illness, and the idea to send them on the trip of a lifetime came to me.  I wanted to create a fundraiser to not only raise funds to send them on one last memorable trip together as a family, but to help alleviate some of the medical costs that are already being incurred.  I've reached out to Jeremy Toney (Jason's brother) and he informed me that Disneyworld has always been a dream of Breidi's to take her children to.  My goal in this is for the kids to have happy, beautiful memories and pictures of their last days with their mother while she is still able.  Sadly, time is of the essence.  Breidi attended Easter Sunday at church in a wheelchair.

To those who are just learning of this, the family has been trying to reach out to as many as possible, but it has been difficult.  I've been given permission to share their story and to let you all know that if you have any questions, please contact Jason's brother Jeremy Toney via FB messenger and he will respond to you as soon as possible.

Above all, I would ask that you please keep the family in your prayers.  This disease is rapidly progressive and the months ahead will be the most difficult they have ever had to face.  If you feel led by the Lord to donate, I can assure that all proceeds will go directly to the family.  Breidi Toney is a sweet, loving mother and her biggest fear in life has been leaving her children without a mother.  Mothering has never been a job for her, just a natural joy and honor.  She has endless patience and is never too busy to answer questions, listen to stories, explain why, or to give hugs and snuggles.  She is loving, nurturing, protective and has only ever wanted her children to feel deeply loved and cared for.  She herself lost her own mother while she was in high school, so this is especially difficult for her knowing that she will be leaving behind her 3 beautiful children.  I thank you for your prayers and for your consideration.

Family, Friends, and Loved Ones- Because of your generosity, Jason, Breidi and the kids enjoyed a beautiful week at Possum Kingdom Lake. They were able to spend quality time with extended family and, of course, each other. Breidi said she just wanted to see the kids enjoying themselves and see the excitement on their faces. She was not disappointed! They played on jet skis, and took Breidi on a pontoon boat tour of the lake. Although the disease is progressing, God have her the strength to enjoy several good days. She was able to sit outside, talk and laugh. They truly made the memories that she had wished for.

They finished the week by returning to Fort Worth for a Sunday family outing to the Rangers game. They were taken down on the field for pictures, were visited in the suite by the mascot, and had a wonderful time.

As the days go on, she is getting weaker. She is no longer able to walk or stand on her own. She is having back pains, muscle atrophy, headaches and some confusion. Hospice is trying to make her comfortable. We ask that you keep fervently praying for strength, peace and precious moments. There are absolutely no words to convey the love and appreciation that Jason and Breidi have for every single one of you.

Family, Friends, and Loved Ones-

We would like to give an update on the status of the Disney trip and the plans for the immediate future. We have recently been in contact with the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, and have had many back and forth communications with them. After sending them Breidi’s lab work and scans, they confirmed her diagnosis of CJD, but informed us that her type of CJD is actually called “Sporadic CJD”. Sporadic CJD is much more aggressive & highly unpredictable in its course of action.

Because of the nature of this disease and after several discussions with the CJD Foundation and with hospice as well, we have unfortunately been heavily advised against taking Breidi out of state to Disneyworld. We are greatly saddened by this revelation, but with the unknown course of the disease, it is far too dangerous to fly her out of state and risk needing to get medical air transportation back to Texas, should something take a turn for the worse. We were advised by the CJD Foundation that Breidi can be talking and cognizant of her surroundings one day, and the very next day be unable to communicate any further or worse. We would hate for Jason and Breidi and the kids to get to Disneyworld and something take a drastic turn for the worse (as is common with CJD) and they get stuck in Florida having to make difficult medical decisions of care.

It has therefore been decided that Jason and the kids will travel to Disney at a later time, in honor and memoriam of their mother, to get the trip she always wanted them to have. We regretfully wish she could be there to see the looks on their faces as they experience Disney for the first time, however it is unfortunately not going to be a possibility any longer.

The plan for the donated money that has been so graciously bestowed upon the family is to 1. Save it for a Disney trip for the kids at a later time, in honor of Breidi’s last wish for her kids, and 2. Use it for the increasing medical expenses the Toney family is incurring at this time.

Breidi has said that some of her fondest memories growing up were spent at her father’s lake house. Thus in lieu of a final trip to Disney, the family (including some extended family) will be traveling to a family lake house this week to spend some quality time there, seeing the children enjoying family time, and making lasting memories for all to cherish and keep in their hearts. They will be fishing with a fishing guide one day, renting a pontoon boat and going out on the lake, and other fun activities that Breidi can safely participate in with her children. They also plan to see a Rangers game and might possibly take the kids to 6 Flags as well.

The family continues to be overwhelmed with gratitude and amazed by the generosity of so many- some that we do not even know personally but who came across her story after receiving over 1400 shares! We are blown away by the acts of kindness in simply sharing her story and we are thankful to know there are, at the very least, 1400 prayers going up for them at this time. We have given this entire situation to God, we lay it at His feet, and we cry out to Him for comfort and peace daily. Although we cannot understand why things have to happen this this way, we trust that He is still in control and we are thankful for His promise of eternal life through Jesus. Thank you all again, and we will continue to post updates as the family wishes.

Friends, Family, and Loved Ones-

The Toney-Donohoo family would like to express their most sincere gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and donations. This fundraiser has far exceeded any and all expectations we had, and we know that it is God's hand on this situation. All glory and honor to Him! We will be posting more updates within the coming days, however we ask that you please continue to keep the family in your daily prayers during the most difficult time in our lives. We can not even begin to express our gratitude and thanks to you all, and we pray that God returns the blessings to you, as you have blessed us. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
