We all have super heroes, for some they are from Marvel or D.C., for some it's their Mother or Father, for me it is my older brother Charlie! Even though we were born 13 months apart we love each other as if we were twins. And to see my brother suffering from this inherited lung disease is like seeing Superman buckle to his knees from kryptonite.
You see Charlie was born with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, it's the lack of a protein that protects the lungs and liver. It is not a very well known or popular disease so it does not receive much attention. It is slowly killing his lungs, to the point where a once very physically fit young man is now unable to walk across a room without the aid of a lot of oxygen. And the periods between his hospital stays for lung infection grow closer together. Without a lung transplant he will die.
The good news is after a lengthy battery of tests at the Cleveland Clinic, Charlie is very close to being accepted into the lung transplant program! That is why we are raising money. You see expenses outside of the hospital post surgery are not all covered. So, as part of agreeing to participating in the lung transplant program we are being asked to raise our share of those expenses. I am trusting that there is plenty of love for Charlie that this simple task can be met! Please would you consider helping me to save my Super Hero?
