Breast Cancer Art - Puerto Rico
Donation protected
Who are we?
The Breast Cancer Art Project is a platform for anyone affected by breast cancer to express their experiences through the power of art.
It offers a place to share our experiences creatively, which can be cathartic and healing, and helps us to feel less isolated - we are a unique, creative community. It also provides a place for friends, family, colleagues and medical professionals to gain a better insight into what those with breast cancer go through, in a way that a conversation alone might not convey.
It is primarily an online platform (open to any level of skill and from any part of the world) but we are holding our first ever physical exhibition this October (in breast cancer awareness month) in Puerto Rico. This is in collaboration with one our art contributors, Sue Olivera, and the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez.
What are we raising money for?
We are trying to raise some money to cover the costs of shipping the artworks to the gallery in Puerto Rico, along with other expenses incurred in making this exhibition happen. The artists have all experienced breast cancer, and are from all over the world, and most are not professional artists - just women who used creativity to communicate their experience. So we really don't want them to be out of pocket through shipping costs, which can be quite expensive for larger pieces of work (both to Puerto Rico and back again!). For some, the cost of shipping will prevent them from being able to exhibit their work in this exhibition.
We want to deliver an impressive exhibition that not only raises awareness of breast cancer in Puerto Rico (and beyond), but also raises appreciation of the incredible power of art as a way of communicating the patient experience (and art as something anyone can do, regardless of artistic background). Any money left over from covering shipping costs will help ensure that the exhibition does just that.
The Breast Cancer Art Project has no financial resources, and is run voluntarily and for free by its founder, Adriana. So please consider helping our cause.
Individual and Corporate Sponsorship
We welcome individual donations, and also corporate sponsorship - we would be happy to promote you as a sponsor if you can donate £250 or more. Please email [email redacted] if you'd like to discuss this.
Incentives
We know that there are a lot of charities and good causes asking for your money, and it's impossible to support everyone. That's why we are offering some incentives - you can get something for your money other than just feeling good! You can receive a print of Sue Olivera's wonderful original artworks (Sue is one our art contributors to the project and organising the exhibition from the Puerto Rico side).
