Help Brayden compete in Abu Dhabi

Donation protected

In October 2016, Brayden's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned him a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Brayden, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Brayden is working tirelessly every day to reach his goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing his country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Brayden has the best possible chance of winning a medal, he is now taking on an intensive training program and along with his mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Brayden will train and develop his skills, his decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Brayden with the best possible opportunity to achieve his full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT BRAYDEN:
Tiler Brayden Gauci credits his time with WorldSkills as making him a better person as well as being more independent.

“It’s definitely been a challenge, but I highly recommend it to anyone.”

Brayden discovered his skills in wall and floor tiling after his cousin asked him to tryout tiling and “I really enjoyed it”.

“I really enjoy my work - each job is different and I constantly get to learn new things.”

Short-term Brayden is honing his skills with the hope of being picked to join the 2017 Team Australia Skillaroo Squad that will travel to Abu Dhabi in October.

“It definitely means a lot to be a part of it and to represent my country would be an experience of a lifetime.”

Longer term he hopes to take his skills and start his own tiling business.

When asked if he would recommend pursuing a career via a vocational education and training pathway – “definitely. You get to learn new skills as well as making money at the same time”.

Brayden is being supported on his WorldSkills journey by Parex Davco.

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
