I reflect on my privilege and many interests and advanced degrees and research and writing opportunities to share my experiences and knowledge with others in order to educate citizens concerned about social justice on transgender topics in education. I advocate for equitable opportunities and nurturance for transgender, gender non-binary and gender diverse students in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities, and society at large.  I provide professional development to teachers and administrators, clergy, health care professionals, and people in other organizations around topics of gender identity and expression and the correlated allyship in school, home, faith, and work.  I also provide mentorship for transgender persons and their families as they navigate the transition process.

I earned my BA in English from Rice University, an MEd in Elementary Education from Texas State University, an MEd in Special Education from Texas State University, an MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State University, and a PhD in Adult, Professional and Community Education from Texas State University.  I have been a junior high school teacher, a martial arts teacher to all ages, and an adjunct professor of elementary education philosophy and methodology.

I am a part of several organizations in that work to advance the position of transgender persons in society.  I am Chair of the Board for Transgender Education Network of Texas
www.transtexas.org
and Vice-President for PFLAG San Marcos.

I also am a board member for GLSEN-Austin.

and a scholarship reader for Bobcat Pride Scholarship Fund

and for The Point Foundation.

I received the Texas State University 2016 Excellence in Diversity Award and the Texas State University Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion 2015 Michael Wilkerson Service to the LGBTQIA community Award.

I present locally, nationally, and internationally on my research on and experience with the inclusion of transgender students in K-20 Education and of transgender people of all ages in family, faith spaces, educational institutions, worksites, etc. I write about equity and social justice in informational articles, creative forms, and on social media.

Even with the privilege that I experience, I still am not able to afford the surgery that I need next.  I have been very fortunate to have had top surgery and a hysterectomy successfully and without crowdfunding.  But, I need a phalloplasty http://brownsteincrane.com/ftm-phalloplasty/
now, and I cannot afford this procedure.  My goal is to crowdfund part of this procedure and to win a grant to pay for the rest.  The total cost of the procedure is $72,500.

I will be having the procedure with Dr. Curtis Crane
http://brownsteincrane.com/dr-curtis-crane/
in Austin, TX.

Thank you, so much, for your love and support in this uncertain time for those of us who live marginalized and often criticized lives.  I appreciate you and your love.  I hate asking for money.   But these surgeries are cost prohibitive for so many of us, including those of us who are doing well and have much family support.  Every penny counts.

I am an educator, first and foremost, and if you know of any organization that is looking to learn more about the transgender or LGBTQIA population and would be interested in hiring me to provide professional development, please refer them to www.transteacher.com
as their fee for my professional development services will also go to paying for my surgery.

Sincerely,

Brandon L. Beck
