My name is Brandi. I am 10 years old and a member of 4H. I raise a hog to show at the fair and sell at the auction at the end. Normally, this works by me going around and talking to businesses hoping to get them to come and bid on my hog. Then at the auction the person who bids the highest per pound wins the bid and gets the hog. I use the money to pay for my expenses for raising my hog and the rest goes into an account for my college. I want to be a veterinarian, and that is expensive!
Booker T. Washington, who was a great teacher, said, “Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.” I want to do this auction in an uncommon way. I would like to ask you to help me raise money for me to buy back my hog. I would like to donate the meat to a homeless charity and 50% of my profit to a special charity to help my friend with Type 1 diabetes. If everybody can donate a little, then it’s not so hard on any one person to help. My friend Maggie Lou has a disease that causes her blood sugar to go really high and really low. When it goes really high she feels bad and could have seizures. When it goes really low she feels bad and could go into a comma and die. She has a special friend named Jasper, who helps her every day and night. He is a diabetic alert dog. These dogs alert almost 20 minute before her machine does, when she is about to go high or low. Jasper wakes her up at night and if he can’t he goes to other people in the house until someone wakes up. He saves her life every day. I don’t want my friend to go blind or have her kidneys fail. And I really don’t want her to die. Jasper costs a lot of money and so does his training and her medical bills. I want to help her by donating a portion of my hog money to pay for Jasper and his training.
I’m only 10yrs old, so I need your help to do this. If we all work together we can do more than just one of us. If you feel you could help me, I would appreciate it. Any amount would help. Help me, help you, help me go to college and to help others like my friend Maggie. By doing this, you can help more than just one person. You can help me with my college money, the homeless with the meat, and Maggie and Jasper.
