My name is Brittany Ruland, a Bernie Sanders delegate from Idaho.
I'm a mom to three beautiful children, a friend, and most recently: a wife. I've been called to the political stage because I know all too well the life and death consequences that come with the decisions our legislators make on a daily basis.
I live with a rare brain disorder that affects my body in ways that are both chronic and debilitating. I've managed this condition for almost 2 years without any access to insurance and slow worsening of my condition resulting in mediocre care from doctors who are unfamiliar with my condition, and less than excited about my lack of insurance.
It has also resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. This condition is not one healed solely by time and patience . I require extensive and costly brain surgery that I cannot obtain because healthcare is not a right here in America, and it is not a privilege afforded to me.
So here I am, championing a candidate that has, for the first time, given me hope that real change is on the horizon. Senator Sanders is the only candidate who believes in the kind of healthcare access and reform necessary for people who live with conditions like mine, and his work in fighting for universal healthcare is an inspiration that makes getting out of bed everyday a worthwhile task. We deserve a president that works for the good of ALL Americans, not just a privileged minority.
