Brain Tumor Surgery/Treatment Fund for Jake Miller

Donation protected
On 12/10/2018 my husband Jake had a grand mal seizure and a 2nd smaller seizure about 20 mins later. He was then taken to by ambulance to CMC Pineville where he had a CT scan taken that found a mass on his brain and then was transported via another ambulance to CMC Main Hosp. to be admitted into their Neurology ICU for further testing, monitoring and imaging.

After multiple scans (MRI with dye & w/o dye, FMRI, CT & CTA scans) the neurologists and neurosurgeon had explained that they believe it’s a Grade II Astrocytoma, possibly a Grade III, but won’t have a positive diagnosis till after surgery is performed and a tissue sample is sent to the lab. They stated the tumor is about the size of a plum and is located on his left side of his brain by his speech. Due to the position of it the surgery can be difficult and may not be able to remove all the tumor, so his speech is not affected.

Of course, this was all a big shock to us and I never thought this would happen to my family. We are newlyweds, we were just settling in a new town together, looking for our 1st home to buy and Jake just started doing what he loved, and went to school for, in his career. It really shook us to our core and we realized we got to pause a lot of things to fight this and do everything we can to get my love back to healthy.

Jake has since then been sent home to think about the different surgery options and to have time to seek out other doctor opinions if wanted.

We have since then sent out medical records to two other cancer facilities to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion by a neurosurgeon at Stanford Univ. in CA and a neurosurgeon at the Barrow Cancer Center in AZ. Both neurosurgeons come highly recommended for the type of tumor Jake has and they have cutting edge technology for brain surgery. They are currently being reviewed and we should be hearing back from them both by next week.

Jake also passed out, or possibly had a seizure (it was not witnessed), on 9/29/18 as well and at that time took a hard fall that dislocated his left shoulder and broke a bone in his shoulder. He was sent to CMC Pineville via ambulance and stayed over night in the ER. It is now believed this was also in connection to his brain tumor, but it was not caught at this time since he was only given a CT scan of his shoulder.

Some of these hospital and multiple ambulance bills are starting to roll in from his trip to the hosp. on 9/29/18 & 12/10/18. We will also have medical bills coming in soon for his multiple images ran (MRI with dye & w/o dye, FMRI, CT & CTA scans) and again in a few months for his upcoming brain surgery, hospital stay for recovery, treatment and possibly chemo/radiation therapy if absolutely needed.

Jake will also need to continue with ongoing MRI scans and checkups every 3-6 months for the 1st few years, then scans will get further apart after 5 yrs., to check if there is any new tumor growth.

Please consider giving what you can to assist in these medical bills and possibly for travel expenses if needed to travel out of state if we decide to go with a doctor in AZ or CA.  We also ask for everyone to please share this page, whether you can give or not, to help get the word out of the financial need. We also appreciate any prayers for Jake to have complete healing, for the surgeons working on him to have wisdom and steady hands, for complete removal of the tumor, whether it be by surgeon or shriveled up by Gods hand, without it affecting any of Jake’s speech, motor skills or cognitive functions and most importantly that he will not have a seizure ever again, there will never be any new tumor regrowth and that we both live a healthy long life together.

We are so blessed to have such loving family and friends offering prayers and support and we appreciate it deeply! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can give and for sharing our post! God bless!
