Bradenton Woman's Club Roof

Tax deductible

While thankfully most of the Bradenton area seems to have avoided the worst of Hurricane Irma’s wrath, a pillar of Downtown Bradenton’s fate is uncertain. The Bradenton Woman’s Club (BWC) could lose its 96-year-old Grand Dame building if they can’t find funding to replace the roof which was demolished by Hurricane Irma.

This beautiful historic building has been serving the local community since 1921. Through hosting countless benefits, providing an affordable gathering place, and offering free space for various organization’s meetings and charity events, this building offers not only a sense of community but a sense of nostalgia as well. At the BWC Grand Dame, you stepped into what felt like a portrait of Old Florida’s past. Now, it feels a little different.

The once-gleaming ballroom that offered a dance floor for thousands over the years, now soaked by 3+ inches of storm water. The roof that offered protection over many special days, completely demolished.

At risk here is more than a mere building. It is an irreplaceable piece of Manatee County history, and the countless memories that were shared there.

Never before has BWC been in such dire need for financial help to save its beloved building. The club’s motto, “Be not simply good, be good for something”. They have dedicated their club to this mission and now more than ever, they need us to join together so that they can continue their good work.

You can help keep this beloved historic building in our community by becoming a BWC sponsor, donating to the gofundme page here, and by sharing the story of the Grand Dame.
