Beyond the Book: Youth Campaign

Donation protected
Marla Quilts Inc. is the supporting organization for the African American Quilt Museum and Textile Academy as well as the Beyond the Book program--Both headed by Marla A. Jackson. The African American Quilt Museum and Textile Academy museum was established in 2012 and is acknowledged by the National Park Service as a part the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. The Beyond the Book program was established in 1998. Beyond the Book is a student outreach program, it looks to promote self-esteem and to teach visual literacy to youth in the Northeastern Kansas area. Within the program students are given assignments to research the history of specific historical events and are deeply encouraged to uncover the truth. After research has been conducted, the students come together to collaborate on a collective quilt project and through the quilt, the students display the findings of their research.

Contributions towards this campaign go to scholarships, supplies, and various other materials needed to continue the program and enable the students in the best way possible towards their future success. Any sized donations are greatly appreciated, thank you.
