Help Me Save My Dream and Business

My name is Ashley. I am a single mother and just opened my own pet grooming salon in April (Doggie Style Maui, www.facebook.com/doggiestylemauigrooming). When I began in the grooming industry, I had no idea what it entailed or what it was about, but after five years in the business I fell in love. I feel blessed to have found a career that I completely enjoy, and find totally fulfilling.

On July 15th a client came to pick up her pet and ended up mistakenly driving her SUV through the building directly into the salon. I was standing with my back facing the window a few feet inside the building directly in the path of the vehicle. The impact drove me into the grooming table I was working at and forced the table and myself through an interior wall into the hallway adjacent to the salon. I came to rest at approximately 20 feet from where I was standing. The driver and passenger of the vehicle are ok and no other persons or pets were injured.

Miraculously I made it through with no broken bones but suffered deep bone and muscle bruising alongside other serious injuries. After nine days at Maui Memorial Medical Center, the doctors informed me that my recovery time could be anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the severity of some of those injuries.

I have invested all of my savings into this new business as well as incurring a good amount of debt to make my dreams come true. Unfortunately when I created my contingency plan I did not prepare for both my self and my salon to be destroyed. As I focus on my recovery the fear of mounting bills is always present in the back of my mind. I cannot imagine having to give up the dream I have worked so hard for just as it was gaining momentum.

I feel I was born for this industry, caring for furry little family members. Please help me to continue to provide joy and necessary care to those family members who need and deserve it by allowing me to cover my family's living expenses. As my savings and available credit have been depleted in the adventure of chasing my dream.

I am an eternal optimist and I truly believe that every cloud has a silver lining.  This whole experience has come to show me how blessed I am to have a fabulous support system of friends and family, as well as clientele who truly appreciate how much I love and care for their pets.  I have come to realize how much I miss working and how much joy the pets bring to my life, above providing just a career.  My overall goal is to come out of this a better and stronger groomer, mother, friend, business owner, and overall human being.  Any monies collected beyond what is needed for me and my family to survive will be invested into making Doggie Style Maui the best grooming salon it can be, by upgrading my facilities and continuing my education.  Thank you so much just for spending the time to read my story, and please share.  If nothing else, maybe I can inspire another entrepeneur to strive for their goals, despite any and all setbacks.

Alright, well the salon will be operational October 1st! Unfortunately I won't be until at least mid October. I am working on somethings to try and make it all work the best way possible. I am pushing for one more burst of donations! I am just short of having the money needed to restart. I have damaged equipment to replace and rent on my space to cover until I am making money again. This has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and I am flat out exausted. I have come too far too give up now and everyone's support has meant the world to me. Please share this and ask all your friends to share. It is extremely hard for me to reach out and ask for help but I know if I don't I will much worse off. We have hit the home stretch.

Thank you everyone for your donations and sharing this with your friends. Without your help I have no idea how I would be making ends meet. Beyond the gifts of money I have received, the kind words and support have meant the world to me. I feel lost without having the purpose in life that comes along with what I do for a living. I am miserable not being able to receive the love I get from my dogs.
Physical therapy is going good. They are very pleased with my progress. I understand the effort I put forth will provide the results and I am determined to get back on my feet at soon s possible. We are still airing on construction but I am sure the Solon will be ready before I am. Thanks again for all the support as well as everyone's patience!

Orthopedic Dr. Says at least 2 months before my knee will be fully healed ( that is only if I do not dislocate it again) I will begin physical therapy and move into a smaller, more mobile brace. He said returning to work will depend on how strong my leg can get and I will be the one to determine if that strength will be enough to do my line of work. I will have to start small maybe only a few dogs a day but along with my other injuries it looks like it will be at least 6 weeks. BOOOOO. I am doing everything I can to heal as quickly as possible. I miss my clients tremendously. I want to give a special thank you to Studio Chiropractic and Dr. Kourtney Knox. She has helped me more than any other medical professional through out my situation. I can not thank every one here enough. Those who have both donated to and shared this page. My family owes their well being to you all. Bills would not have been paid, medications would not have been purchased, and Ruthie would not be starting preschool with out your help. (She has been on a long waiting list and after one day she loves going there) Your help has allowed my life to continue on as normally as can be expected during this difficult time. Thank you!

Well here in Wailuku we couldn't really even tell there was a storm! We did prepare and I believe I may have over worked myself a bit but it is hard to sit and be still all the time. I am able to get around a bit without the crutch just in the house. Getting around the dogs and the cat tend to pose a problem from time time! I can't wait for my orthopedic appointment on Tuesday and get a true idea as to when I can get back to work! I will keep you all posted. Thank you for all the support and kind words. I have never felt so appreciated and loved!
