Boxing 4 Parkinsons Newnan, GA

When I saw this segment by Lesley Stahl on Sunday Morning regarding her husband Aaron Latham, who suffers from Parkinsons and the Rock Steady Program in Brooklyn, NY, it touched my heart.  My mom, recently being diagnosed with Dementia, I thought, maybe this program can help her a little too.

We joined our local YMCA in Newnan, GA and met a wonderful coach in the Parkinsons Class that is excited about this program as there is a sizable community with Parkinsons in our area. They were equally excited, but lack the funding for this program.  I am hoping this campaign, will help me connect with people that find this hopeful, and will help me fund getting two coaches trained so I can bring this kind of program to my gym, and get my mom into it.  The doctors say that similar programs may help patients with Dementia as it does Parkinsons.  And if it does, I owe it to her and all those in my community with Parkinsons and dementias to try to bring this program here.  Please help me make this happen!  Our Local YMCA is in Newnan, GA, and the parent organization is YMCA Metro Atlanta and they are a 501c3.   ALL donations will go directly to them to train 2 coaches and get some equipment to start this kind of program.  I would like the funds as soon as possible for either the Rock Steady Curriculum or a similar program, as the gym needs to train coaches so the program is safe for participants, get equipment and start the classes!

Parkinsons and dementias effect people of all ages, from about 35 up.  Therefore, this program appeals to broad group of people.  Thank you for supporting this, It means a lot to me to be able to give someone an hour of fun, a smile, some exercise, positive reinforcement and hope.  Hope, is everything.  The patients in this video have a better quality of life because of this program, and I want to bring it to Newnan.  Please help me on this journey!

Who am I?  I am, Marianne Pizzitola. I am retired from the NYC Fire Department.  I was a native NYer, and I now live in Georgia with my honey Matt, my Mom and Dad, my two dogs Sugar and Jewels, and I am a caregiver for my loving mom.  Mom, was a NY City School teacher at PS 165 in Queens, NY, one of the toughest jobs in the world! After being diagnosed with FTD (FrontoTemporal Lobe Dementia), Mom and dad moved to Sharpsburg with me.  I have two sisters, Colette Pizzitola in MD, and Antoinette Croly, in VA.

Thank you for supporting this program, and our community. I guess once in public service, always in public service!
