Borris Myers Memorial Fund

Donation protected
UPDATE: Sadly, since the time we originally posted this, Borris has passed away. He went peacefully to the other side on Thursday, September 20 in our loving arms. We are grateful to you all for your generous contributions. We're going to keep this fund active for now because his bills did continue to increase with each day of care and we'll be making massive, unexpected monthly payments on this for a long time. We took great comfort in the financial relief, messages of encouragement and love that you all shared with him in his final days. We would read the notes to Bubba and let him know about his donation total going up. It gave us all a bit of hope and comfort in an extremely stressful, dark time. Blessed Be.

*********
Many of you may be wondering why you haven't been seeing those cute photos of your fuzzy pal Borris on social media lately. The sad truth is, our pal is having a rough time and has been in the hospital for a week. Now he (and his folks) could use a little help if you're able.

A few weeks ago Borris stopped grooming, leading to matted hair. This was a warning sign as he's always taken great pride in keeping his shiny black hair neat. His doctor said it may be due to arthritis pain (common in older kitties). We tried brushing, then shaving. Last weekend he did something he's never done. He stopped eating, drinking and using his litter box -- three of his favorite things to do.

Concerned by his dehydration, weight and temperature drop -- his vet told us to take him to the emergency room immediately.

The caring folks at
University Veterinary Specialists  took him in and began a series of tests and treatments:

• blood tests
• x-rays
• ultrasound
• blood pressure monitoring
• nursing care
• urinalysis
• IV fluids (antibiotics, anti-vomiting, antacids, pain medicine

He was "touch and go" for the first couple days and finally began eating and drinking on day 3 of his hospital stay, but was unable to return home due to the sodium levels in his blood. He finally made it home Saturday night but did not drink, eat or use his box, so back to the ER Sunday for more tests. He's currently resting at home, still hasn't eaten, drank or used his box but we're hoping for the best as he gets some much needed rest.

I'm not gonna lie, sweet little Bubba-Boo has a tough road to recovery ahead of him  having been diagnosed with:

• anorexia
• kidney disease
• heart murmur
• enlarged heart
• arthritis
• UTI
• poor muscle condition
• kidney infection
• poor sodium levels
• lethargy
• and his previously diagnosed hyperthyroidism

It looks like it's going to be roughly $100 or more each time he has to go back and get his blood tested. Fortunately "Care Credit" offered some assistance in a pinch but what we're left with is roughly $7,000 worth of vet, emergency and treatment bills.

I know times are tight and understand if you can't contribute (maybe you could share this with the animal lovers on your list?) But if you're interested and able to pitch in, it would be greatly appreciated and every little bit helps. 100% of the donations will go to paying off Bubba's bills and toward the ongoing treatment he'll now need. This tough little rescue cat has gotten me through some extremely trying times and now I need to be there for him. Thanks for caring enough to read this far.

Love,
Borris
