Orthodox Mission Trip to Mexico
My name is Ioana Dimitriu. I am a Romanian-Canadian, a Spanish Adjunct (part-time) Lecturer, and a mother of a wonderful teenage girl.
In the Spring of 2014, I joined an Orthodox Christian mission team to Mexico. The trip was organized by the Orthodox Christian Mission Centre and the Diocese of Mexico of the Orthodox Church in America. We were very warmly welcomed by the clergy and the faithful at the Cathedral in Mexico, and by hospitable indigenous people in the villages of Pisaflores (in the State of Veracruz), and San Esteban (in the State of Hidalgo). We spent a few days in remote rural areas, participating in services, teaching, and playing with children.
Orthodox Books for Children
I was moved by people's very simple way of life in those remote indigenous villages, by the children's joy and vivid interest in learning about our ancient Christian faith. Therefore, after I returned to Canada, I wanted to do whatever possible to help the children on their path to learning about Orthodox Christianity, and also to keep being connected with them. Since I am fluent in Spanish, I used my language skills to create activity books for the children in the Orthodox missions in Mexico. With the blessing of His Eminence Bishop Alejo, I wrote and published an activity book about The Twelve Feasts of the Orthodox Church in Spanish, and I donated 200 copies to the OCA Cathedral in Mexico. I wrote, I published, and I donated the activity books out of my own initiative, and I relied solely on personal financing.
Since this activity book was a success, I have been asked by Jesse Brandow, one of the very active Orthodox Christian missionaries in Guatemala, whether I could provide a number of 500 copies in Spanish to be used by the children in this Central American country.
How You Can Contribute
Unfortunately, without funding, I cannot respond to this request. I need help from faithful and generous donors. The cost to produce 500 copies (including reediting, printing and shipping) is CAD$5,000.

Size 8 1/2 x 11, 76 black and white text pages and full-colour illustrations, with reading comprehension activities, word games and colouring icons.
