Books at Their Level

Trinity Lutheran is a school with a long solid history. Trinity started in 1872. The church and school were moved from our downtown location to the east side of Indianapolis. We have served the east side of Indy since 1958.
With such a long history we are have impacted the lives of thousands of children and families. In the last few years, the lives which we are impacting in meanigful ways have challenged us to change the way we teach. We have seen an increased need for individualized learning (known as differentiated instruction). Many of our students struggle in reading and are behind in their reading levels.
Because the teachers and staff at Trinity do anything necessary to positively impact the learning of our students, we have begun to more intentionally give students reading at their individual levels. Not every students in a grade is reading the same level of texts.
The major problem with that plan is that we do not have access to a goof collection of books at all of the reading levels.
We are raising money for a leveled bookroom. This collection of texts would offer at least 5 titles at each level. Having multiple copies of books will allow teachers to do small group intruction with small groups of students that are at the same level. The instruction can be extremely targeted and give each and every student the work they need at their level.
We are raising funds for a pre-assembled bookroom with teacher instructions from Scholastic. A full-out bookroom would cost around $27,000.00. However, we think that we can responsibly start small and build our collection from a seed bookroom. The bookroom kit we would like to start with costs $5000.00.
Your help with this project will greatly benefit our students. It will give our teachers the tools they need, in order to accurately address our students' unique reading needs. When the community invests in our faculty and student body, it sends the message that their work is valued by all in the community. It is a powerful motivator for developing life-long learners.
