Tucked away in a small corner of California is a magical place that comes to life every Halloween season. There’s nothing scary here, instead, a whimsical aura pervades as lights, music, and laughs from guests of all ages are seen and heard throughout the grounds. Boney Island is a Sherman Oaks community landmark that offers a family-friendly safe Halloween experience.
In recent years, the massive extravaganza has taken on the theme of Halloween Magic, and all of Boney Island’s skeletal residents partake in illusions, from climbing rope tricks and levitating through hoops, to flying carpets and shadow puppetry. There are sideshow type gags such as knife throwing, and a host of other oddities, including singing shrubbery and flowers & bushes that blossom right before your eyes. Look up, or you'll miss the bantering spiders.
The centerpiece attraction of Boney Island is a mind-blowing water fountain show that takes place every 15 minutes, featuring an animated skeletal host, Maestro Maxilla and a cluster of mischievous cauldrons that have minds – and attitudes – of their own. Glowing ultraviolet water dances and leaps from the cauldrons as music plays, in front of the four-story Boney Island Treehouse, which comes to life with lights and a wide assortment of grinning Jack-O-Lanterns, all synced in time with the music!
Our goal is to have a Halloween celebration that creates lasting memories for everyone. Because our family-friendly approach has been so successful, the crowds at our house have grown tremendously. We now need to have traffic officers surrounding Boney Island to help alleviate the congestion and keep everyone safe. While it is a lot of work and a labor of love, we have been self-funding the project for 19 years. We’re completely volunteer run but other costs involved are becoming extremely high for us to sustain this tradition, so we’re offering you some pretty sweet incentives to help keep Boney Island thrilling young and old alike.
