Cheryl Hanson Medical Support Fund

Our friend and co-worker, Cheryl Hanson, has been fighting lymphoma since 2008 when she was 43 years old.. She has been through lots of chemo and now has been told that her life depends on a bone marrow transplant. She has worked full time with just short medical leaves when the chemo really knocked her down. This next chapter in her medical maze will be pretty tough. She will not be able to work and has to use up what is left of her sick time and vacation, which isn't much because she has already had to take a lot of time off this year.  They were trying to keep her going with transfusions and immunoglobulin infustions because she has myeloplastic dysplasia syndrome (as a result of her lymphoma treatment) and was getting severely anemic.  Unfortunately, her sister was not a match for bone marrow, so she has been put on a registry. She begins her next, very harsh round of chemo in a couple weeks. OHSU has told her they can not put her on the transplant list unless she lives within 35 miles of the hospital. So, on top of everything else, she has to leave the cute, little rental home in Longview that she adores. She has to move very quickly, paying 1st and last month rent in a market that is way more expensive than Longview. Cheryl is a hard working, tough person, but this illness has taken its toll. She has worked for Fred Meyer for 30 years, the last 20 years as a pharmacy technician. She has a very cute little grandson who she helps take care of.  She rarely complains and has a big heart. I personally observed her pay for a phone for a patient after she heard that he had fallen when his artificial hip ball dislodged and lay in the road writhing in pain because he didn't have a phone to call 911.
