Bail for Scarlett Community Member

Donation protected
A family member of who is part of the Scarlett Middle School (Ann Arbor, MI) community has been detained based on immigration status. He is currently in a detention center in Michigan and the bail is 15,000 dollars. The family has managed to raise almost 10,000 dollars. We are raising funds for the remaining 5,200 plus the 3% processing fee charged by Go Fund Me ($156).

Currently, the father is supporting his wife, two young girls, sister-in-law, and her son. The family has been struggling to make ends meet and a bail of 15,000 is beyond their reach. The father has served as his family’s and his extended family’s interpreter and financial supporter. The detention comes as a particularly difficult time for the family, as a teenage boy in the extended family who they live with and support is undergoing knee surgery.

The bail money will allow the father to be released i so he can be with his family between now and his trial in late July. Currently, his two daughters (both under five years of age), are asking for their father.  We need to raise the bail funds as soon as possible to allow the father to return to his family.

Unfortunately, it can take a long time for bail money to be returned. We are asking for permanent donations so that when the money is returned, we can use it to begin a fund to help other families who need similar support.  The fund will be managed by the Immigration Support Team, a group of teachers at Scarlett Middle School who advocate for the needs of immigrant students and families in the Scarlett community.
