Late last summer, Matt Boettcher was diagnosed with cancer in his mouth and lymph nodes. He underwent extensive surgery and radiation and for a few months appeared to be in the clear. However, his last scan revealed this was not the case.  As Matt’s wife Sarah wrote on February 4:
For those of you who don't know, Matthew had a recurrence in his cancer. It has spread through his entire throat and into his lungs, in just a few short months after radiation he has been diagnosed as stage 4. He starts very aggressive chemotherapy, targeted and immunotherapy today. I love him so much, and would trade places with him in a heartbeat but I know that he wouldn't let me even if it were possible. It would mean so much to us if you could think of him, say a prayer, or ask the universe to please be kind to him.

Matt’s needs are constantly changing and his is the primary supporter of their family, which include Sarah, his wife,  three beautiful children and niece and nephew.

Matt recently received a feeding tube and can only have one particular kind of boost.

The goal of this gofundme account is to help help ease the financial stress of this situation.

However you can help this family, it is very much appreciated.

God Bless

Over the last few days I’ve been checking in with Sarah to see how everything is going and she said it was ok if I shared an update.

First and foremost, thank you! Thank you to anyone who has helped, continues to help or will help in the future, in all things! Between the boost, monetary donations, gift cards, even helping with the kids or snow removal, in all ways, Sarah was so incredibly amazed at the love and support of friends, family, church, school and even strangers.

Now for an update on Matt...very positive news, there were no new growths seen on the CT scan of the lungs. The tumors even appear to be getting smaller!
The tumors in his mouth and neck are a little more difficult. In these tumors, there appears to be necrotic tissue-necrosis is the death of cells in living tissue. Anyway, these tumors appear larger, and the Dr feels this is due to the necrotic tissue. The future scans (within the next month) will confirm.
The doctor assures that is this the most aggressive and effective treatment plan for this particular type of cancer!
That said, Matt will be able to supplement some soft foods back into his diet while also having primary nourishment from the feeding tube.
As I close out this update, I ask that you continue to keep Matt, Sarah and the kids in your prayers. This is a long journey for the whole family.
