Bob Shepper Stroke Recovery

Life can change in an instant!

Our instant was the morning of October 14, 2015 around 10:00 am.

As you may already know, my 31 year old son Bob had a Hemorrhagic (Intracerebral) Stroke on October 14, 2015 that almost took his life.  He had a blood vessel in his brain that ruptured which caused pressure and swelling in his brain, therefore requiring him to have emergency surgery, known as a Ventriculostomy.   He was in critical condition in ICU and was kept sedated, intubated, had a feeding tube and was put in a paralyzed state to inhibit unnecessary brain and motor function to achieve lower intracranial pressure.  The hemorrhage was deep in the brain tissue and not very accessible so they were draining cerebral spinal fluid to make room and compensate for the extra blood that was pooling in his brain.   After 11 days in ICU Bob finally broke through was able to be transferred to a standard room and eventually home in my care.

On a positive note, he has made great progress considering, but still has a long road ahead of him.

Unfortunately, he has no medical insurance and is still under Doctor’s care and not able to return back to work.  He has started outpatient therapy (physical,  speech and occupational) 2-3 times a week.  He needs to follow up with a Neurologist in 4 weeks but we found out that with no medical insurance a Neurologist will not see him not to mention he now needs to get in to see an ENT Specialist as he is having difficulties with his throat due to being intubated twice for 11 days and he had developed Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) upon his release.

So why am I telling you this through GoFundMe.com ?  I have been asked by numerous people how they can help and I think this may be the answer.  This is a tragic event Bob (and my family) have to go through and it is going to come at a very big cost so I'm turning to you, friends, family, and those who we are yet to know for some help. My goal is to keep Bob focused on his recovery, not the costs of the mounting bills from all the medical help he needs and his day to day living costs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the love and the support!

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when blood vessels in the brain leak or rupture, causing bleeding in or around the brain. Only about 20 percent of strokes are hemorrhagic strokes. Damage can occur quickly due to the pressure of increasing amounts of blood or because of the blood itself. Blood is irritating to the brain tissue, causing it to swell.
