In early January I went to see a Neurologist at Jefferson Hospital after having a few MRI's done on my brain and spine. I went to the doctor complaining of arm, hand, and feet numbness. The doctor evaluated the MRI and as it turns out I have a tumor in my thoracic spinal cord. The tumor in about 1cm in diameter and 4cm long. The tumor is blocking the flow of spinal fluid which is causing pressure on my nerves. The only option I have is to undergo major surgery. The surgery was scheduled as quickly as possible and will be on Feb 2nd at Jefferson Hospital. What they are going to do is make an incision in my back, temporarily remove 4 vertebrae, and go into my spinal cord to remove the tumor. The doctor was saying it's about a 5-6 hour surgery. After surgery the will replace the vertebrae and reinforce them with 2 rods and 8 screws. As a result of the surgery I will have likely permanent leg numbness. The degree of which is unknown right now. I will then need to spend a good amount of time at an inpatient rehabilitation center to learn how to walk with the new sensation in my leg.
With the upcoming surgery and physical therapy I will be out of work for an extended period of time. As we all know bills do not stop just because we aren't working. I am a asking for help with not only the medical bills that I will incur, but also to support my family during this process.
