The Black Owned Business and Entrepreneurship (BOBE) Group started with the purpose of positively impacting Swedish and by large Scandinavian society, by using business and entrepreneurship as a means to create a space for African and African diaspora peoples to succeed and to prosper in spite of the challenges they face in the labor market. We aim to promote a positive image of African and African diaspora peoples as entrepreneurial , innovative and successful business owners.
Moreover, the lack of job opportunities, high unemployment rates, social exclusion and lack of structural support are some of the issues affecting Black peoples all over Scandinavia. Reports published by the Länsstyrelsen Stockholm, 2018, shows that nowadays anti-black racism and discrimination in the labor market is on the rise. There also exists a clear connection between a person's income and access to the labor market and the color of a person's skin, despite the possession of equivalent qualifications.
As a result of this many people from the African diaspora have been forced to create businesses in order to offset the barriers and challenges presented to us by structural and symbolic racism. Unfortunately, though Black peoples are starting businesses at greater rates, they are also failing at greater rates. Many new Black businesses never get off the ground and for those that do actually start, they are not growing as quickly or as big as white-owned companies.
When our goal is accomplished, we aim to create value by providing the array of diverse Black entrepreneurs and businesses with networking, partnership, financing, and other business development opportunities in order for them to realise their true potential and to accelerate at a faster pace.
The goal is to raise money to be used to support entrepreneurial development projects, Business conferences, seminars and other business educational programmes. With plans to build Scandinavia's first Black Owned Business and Entrepreneurship Network, we want to establish an online platform that will become a virtual Black Wall Street for people to locate, support, fund, collaborate and network with the varied Black owned businesses and entrepreneurs in Scandinavia.
The BOBE Group is so vital to Black entrepreneurs and business owners on a local and national level: “Our organization is addressing the greatest issue facing black businesses and entrepreneurs which is not just the lack of access to capital but also the lack of networks and knowledge of how to develop their businesses.BOBE Group Instagram
